One of those movies that'll either be epic fun or a complete meltdown. Mediocre is not an option. And I'm looking forward to seeing which side of the fence it lands on.

I'm predicting it will be pretty bad, based on the trailers. I have an odd feeling that it's one of those movies that you go to see, expecting massive robots and huge explosions, and end up with some elaborate dream that some 18 year old girl woke up from....
18 year old girl, nvm, count me in.

There is a lack of dark thoughtful horror films. Not silly blood baths but narratives that go into brilliant white corners of emotion which rich storyline textures.
I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream
Now this has your ebil intelligent computers:-
The story takes place one-hundred and nine years after the complete destruction of human civilization. The Cold War had escalated into a world war, fought mainly between China, Russia, and the United States. As the war progressed, the three warring nations each created a super-computer capable of running the war more efficiently than humans. The machines are each referred to as "AM," which originally stood for "Allied Mastercomputer," and then was later called "Adaptive Manipulator." Finally, "AM" stands for "Aggressive Menace." One day, one of the three computers becomes self aware, and promptly absorbs the other two, thus taking control of the entire war. It executes the genocide of all but five people.
Four men and one woman are all that remains of humanity. They live together underground in an endless complex, the only habitable place left, although it is explained that the last few survivors had no choice but to return above ground. The master computer has an immeasurable hatred for the group and spends every moment torturing them. AM has not only managed to keep the humans from taking their own lives, but has made them virtually immortal.
One of the AM's transforms a man into an enormous gelatinous blob who cannot possibly hurt himself, and constantly alters his perception of time to deepen his anguish. Ted is, however, grateful that he was able to save the others from this same experience. In the end, he needs to scream, but cannot, for his new form lacks a mouth.
.
Now that would make a good film I would watch

It looks too badly produced imo
All the CGI scenes have that classic 'filmed indoors' look to the lighting, all white and bloomed out, to compensate.
300 suffered the same fate, as did Sin City and Watchmen.
Kinda interesting that the scenes look so fake, in that they are a representation of her dreams, which are by definition fake also - I guess maybe they overachieved in this regard then...

It's about the willingness to suspend disbelief by the audience.
In 300, the acting kept that film going until the end - not to mention cut-throat dialogue and I have the greatest respect for the vision of that film. The look of the film bent reality too far.
Sin City went too far, regardless of how well once again the acting was (in places), it missed the mark due to the post production.
Watchmen...everywhere looked like a set and due to poorly executed story and questionable acting, I really didn't find anywhere near as much empathy with the characters as I did when I read the graphic novel as a kid and re-read prior to watching the film at the cinema.
I am tremendously critical of story execution and suspension of disbelief - and my point is that no matter how cool it looks, the whole time I am going to be thinking 'this isn't real'. Not only is it not real in the sense that it is CGI etc, but the actual things we are seeing are only happening in the mind of the protagonist.
IF the content of her/their dreamworld had much more in the way of mechanical effects and real locations - then I can go that extra mile...but it isn't and I won't.
With a graphic novel - everything on the page is drawn with the same pen by the same person, with this film you're taking so many elements and compositing them together to create a fake world, based on a fake world, based on a dream world - all this film is going to be is a series of well produced set pieces interwoven.
It's a tough call to make, but I'm calling it.
Will I see it? Yeah, sure - I like watching movies, but this ain't winning Oscars for acting or dialogue and will probably break even at best, for the reasons I have stated.
Audiences will not connect with this film, and will probably forget they have seen it by the time their head has hit the pillow that night.
It's a popcorn movie.

I might be wrong and reserve judgment until I see it, but I think this will be slightly different to Sin City and 300 (I have not seen Watchmen) and that difference is that those films were graphic, this film actually looks incredibly artistic. It's the kind of cinematography that has depth. Final Fantasy: Spirits Within is not a good film, but artistically I'm always drawn into it whenever it's on TV. Certainly though, this kind of film does not preclude a good script and/or acting. I like popcorn sometimes

the girl has way too much makeup on and looks fake, oh and she also looks like she is 14, I just liked the robo samurai with a minigun
and I like to watch movies and video games because they bend reality, and yea it's a popcorn movie, but I don't think anyone needed a deep analysis to see that.

:-( there are other girls in the movie besides the lead. And I rather like the lead too even though I am a few decades older. ;p Something about the pouty expression I suppose.

Watching it now, or rather trying to, stopping every other minute to vent, what a ****storm that is, flying robots against biplanes, how is that war not already over?
It is so **** that even **** would be embarrassed to be seen beside it.
I don't care if all the action is in some girls head to help her escape reality, the reality is that girl need to be put down and so does the director. Uwe Boll is that you?

Ok that's it, I wish I'd seen this at the cinema, then I would've pulled my first ever walkout and I've sat there for a lot of filth but this us just beyond anything I can tolerate, moronic scenes for a moronic audience. Off!
