Evening all,
I am finally in a position to toss away my faction beams and install T2 Tachyons, after running the numbers and seeing T2 is the way to go. The only problem with this is while my dps and tracking go up, my cap life goes down from 3min 36 to about 2min 25.
I have max cap-related skills, I have both cap 5% implants. So my thoughts of recovering some cap stability turn instead to changing the tank up a little. I have been flying my Nightmare for well over a year and am well aware that its tank is its gank, but there are still moments when you need to run everything to get you out of the ****.
Would I be better off running two smaller reppers(say Pithum B-Types) instead of the large(my current Pith X-Type)? Or would I be best investing in a crystal set and keeping my current repper and then just being even more careful when pulsing the booster?
Of course, any other suggestions are more than welcome.

not surprisingly a pithum medium sized booster is (one of)the most expensive booster in game.Run your numbers through EFT but you should be able to be cap stable with it.
It's what I'd do.
Also with a boost amp it should give you enough tank

Hmm, an option I hadn't considered before because the idea of buying ammo for a laser ship slightly offends me, but since cap charges are readily available in mission loot it doesn't seem like so bad an idea.

I'll have a look at that, I have one I can steal from an alt's Tengu temporarily if the numbers look good. At least I can try before I buy, in a manner of speaking.
Thanks to you both, some interesting ideas thus far.

Cap Booster with 800's has how I've flown mine since day one and never looked back, just use a Domination XL booster too, works out just fine. AS you well know agro management and blowing things up is the best tank, but the cap 800's help a ton.
I've also seen people use a PIth Large booster as well, can work of cap 400's if you go that route. It could just be that the purpose of your life is to server as a warning to others. |

you dont need to perma run your cap booster anyway,
so you dont even use that many cap boosters. plus they are cheap.

If you want to perma-run your SB on a nightmare, it'll cost you alot of isk, but it's possible. The best fitting I've seen (and used.) for a permatank nightmare, that keeps it's face melting dps intact is this:
[Nightmare, PermaTankNightmare] Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Tracking Enhancer II
Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Invulnerability Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II Heat Dissipation Field II Pith B-Type Shield Boost Amplifier Pithum A-Type Medium Shield Booster
Tachyon Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency L Tachyon Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency L Drone Link Augmentor I Small Tractor Beam I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hornet II x5 Vespa II x5
With a Crystal set, this fit has more then enough tank to handle an L4 long enough for the nightmares dps to clear a room, and is cap stable with any crystal except multi/faction multi, which gives it just over 12 minutes of cap. Just be mindful of triggers and scram equipped elite frigs and be very careful on L4's that are known to spit high DPS as well. (Enemies Abound 5/5, AE Bonus room, etc.)

I think the Gist line takes less energy.
Run the number and see what you get. Remember you only need like 500/300 tank to complete missions in a gank tank.
Also, do you overheat? I find this to be critical in "getting out of the ****".

Cap Boosted Nightmare all the way. Stuff vaporizes so fast that in most missions I don't even need to activate it. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

Another nice little pointer, I shall look into that. There's nothing wrong with the amount of tank, other than being limited by cap so that's always handy to know.
As for overheating, no. I save that for dire situations and to date have only done so once in PVE - Pirate Invasion with the wrong tank because of a lack of sleep is very interesting to say the least, and deploying drones to kill the little sod pointing you just triggers a whole load more aggro... you can see where that's going. I usually manage the aggro and fit the correct tank, but we all **** up from time to time ;) luckily the Nightmare just chews rats up eh?
