Much reference in forum threads recently about the inability to have 'fair' pvp, without the blobgank effect.
OK so it needs some form of consensual pvp, a duelling scenario. A challenge to the ship-death which is accepted by both parties, on the understanding that they won't be jumped by a third player or gang. The two players enter 'duelling mode' where fleeting is disabled, Concord will leave them alone but intervene against third parties who try and gatecrash, or if either player goes for the podkill. The only way out of the challenge is when one of the ships is destroyed.
It sounds easy enough to set up, so I'm wondering why we don't have it?

Because psuedo-instantiation is a bad thing.

I like the idea. You can still do it by canflipping each other but this is easier.

Want 1 v 1 's ? go to NPC owned 0.0 or lowsec, those still exist there.
If Eve were fair it would cease to exist as Eve.

Two thoughts
1) this should be in the features and idea's form and not general.
2) its been suggested multiple times, CCP don't want you to be safe. Being able to agree to a one on one fight then back stab your opponent by bring in a dozen ships is all part of eve. |

Funny.
1. What about alliance tournaments? 2. What's "safe" about risking your ship in a duel?

It needs to end when 1 leaves grid, else people will do that they do for 1v1s on Sisi and not fit a ****ing point. |

Err, I think duelling would be an additional way to kill other players, it doesn't affect the current playing styles at all. More kill options, that's gotta be a good thing.

I like the idea too. I think some conditions are needed to keep it in the spirit of eve:
No pseudo-instantiation, you are risking your ship. There should be a check box somewhere, "Auto reject duel challenges" that is initially set "on" for new players. Accepting a challenge sets a 15 minute timer for the two players, just as if they can flipped each other. So actually a duel game mechanic would just be making an awkward mechanic we already have more convenient.
The main downside I see is some may stop roaming low sec looking for PvP, but instead stay in high sec looking for duels. This would make low sec even more empty. But the reverse may happen: some would try PvP via duels, like it, and move on to bigger things in low and null sec.

No, gbtw.
This ruin the fundamental game play of EVE, and breaks the trust (or lack of) that is important in EVE.
If you need CCP holding your little hand all the way with silly mechanics since you can not take care of your self, WOW is the game for you. Or that lame tank game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
