So obviously there will be a difference, but what is the quality difference between a VGA monitor running eve and a hd monitor running eve?
Will there be a greatly noticeable difference?

Not really as most VGA monitors display at a higher res than HD anyway.

Well until fairly recently PC monitors used an analogue VGA signal with the D shaped connectors. Now its a digital signal with a DVI connector that offers far superior picture quality. It is also compatible with HDMI so with an adapter you could output your games PC graphics card DVI signal to a HDMI connection on a flat screen tv.
720p and 1080p and HD standards. The image below shows these 2 HD resolutions in blue boxes. As I have a 24" monitor that can do 1920x1200 resolution it can support 720p and 1080p, the latter being 1920x1080.

You have to be MUCH more specific than that. WHICH KIND of "VGA" ? And What kind of "HD" ? I can only assume you don't mean 640x480, since the minimum EVE resolution is 1024x768.

More room, basically, and the gfx will be higher resolution - that's where the quality comes in.
If you're asking about what kind of monitor to use, that'll depend on personal preference, budget and whether your gfx card can actually handle higher resolutions, with the gfx settings in EVE max'd out or not.
LCD monitors are graded by the panel type, and in ascending order:
TN VA PVA MVA IPS (commonly H-IPS and S-IPS)
Your best bet for a fuller flavour would be H/S-IPS running at 1080P+ through a 1GB mid-range or higher gfx card. Something like This or This and This would be top end.
You could go for a CRT - but most have reservations about them, myself included, and that's really down to size, power usage and ease of use.

From personal experience, VGA connection on LCD monitors usually mucks the signal up a bit. From a technical standpoint though, quality VGA should hold up pretty well.
If you're asking this because you're about to buy a new monitor - All i can say is, go to a store and get first hand 'experience'. Overall though, you'd want to go for dvi or displayport for compatability with video cards, since more recent ones don't have dsub anymore. I don't know enough about hdmi to say whether it's good for computer use or whether it's just a fancy tv connection, though iirc it's basically identical to dvi so it should be fine. |

HDMI is simply DVI video signalling + digital audio in a smaller connector. Hence why you can get HDMI to DVI adptors/cables.
