So yeah going through Aunenen in a Crane, and WI. alliance is there with about 50+ probes all in a 15km sphere and has a medium sized gate camp.
Now I'm not saying that this is an exploit because I should be able to use my cloaky goodness to get away with impunity. I understand there is always going to be risk, but I thought they got rid of mines and spamming cans for this reason also? Because people spam them and it creates lag. Don't the devs want to avoid lag in as many situations as possible?
Also WI. must suck because they also missed a 1600mm plated Proteus in addition to my Crane.

Well, you should. Because it is.
The only things you're allowed to leave on gates to decloak people are:
-your own ships. -the wrecks and/or cans of wrecks of previous victims.

Edited by: Aessoroz on 10/03/2011 06:44:08 Eh, maybe the 50 + man camp each has a single combat probe out on every gate in order to know where ships are at?
Next thing you know, dumping my collection of 500+ corpses on a gate to decloak people will be a exploit....

So does this mean I can't litter a gate with like 300 small containers? Ratz....

Be honest here, did it really create lag? :DD its such a BS line. You would have to play on a laptop below min reqs to lag from that

it's two-fold:
1) it can create lag for the person loading the grid, which can be the difference between the HIC pointing you before you can cloak or not
2) littering the gate increases chances of the player spawning too close to an object to cloak.
hence, it's not allowed to purposefully place objects (other than the ships you are flying) on gates.
The exception is wrecks (and cans from salvaged victims), which are considered "natural" by the GMs.

Well thank you Helicity for the information. I will let the GMs know next time I see them do that then.

Did the rules change in the last 6 months? About that long ago, I asked a GM about it and was told that you can put whatever you want out and it's fair game...

i like the probe launcher idea. if everyone in gang fits a probe launcher and just happens to launch all 8 of their probes @ 15km from the gate, more than 2km from each other and less than 4km from each other, whats the problem??? you can never have enough probers... Although i do remember hearing about some 0.0 alliance using lots of bubbles and getting in trouble for it. apparently, redundancy is not allowed in eve. probs to help noobs who go roaming without scouts.

No, you can't. I also seem to remember the NC crying about BoB/Kenny/IT/whatevertheyaregonnabecallednext not too long ago, so they know full well what the rules are about it.

Edited by: Le Skunk on 10/03/2011 19:54:16 The problem here is a mixture of arbitrary ccp judgements, legacy lag issues which no longer exist, wooly rules, chinese whispers, and lack of knowledge of game mechanics.
The result being you get 10 different people coming out with 10 different "ITS OBVIOUS INNNIT"
Uncloaking a ship is not an exploit. Stopping a ship cloak is not an exploit.
Creating excess lag is considerd against the rules. But what is excess lag? 1 can, 10 cans, 15 cans, 200 cans, abandoned drones, scan probes.
Wrecks are "natural" are they, well 50 pilots self destruct a noob ship around the gate, theres 50 wrecks for you to uncloak ship. Thats allright then is it? NO...... ok ill kill my alt 28 times... is that ok?
30 bubbles on a 0.0 gate are considered ok, but 40 is removable by gms.
The list goes on.. rubbish game really. (o)

As I understand it you are allowed to drop stuff to decloak, so long as you are not creating too much lag.
So loads of stuff is not allowed.
A handful of cans or probes is. However, if a GM comes along and doesn't like what you've done, then thats tough luck for you. ---- I belong to Silent Ninja (Hopefully that should cover it). |

Yeah thats about correct.
TBH i think they should make more hard and fast rules about it. It sounds silly, but it'd help a lot to say 'more than x is exploiting'.
While I think its cheap to use probes and stuff as decloakers (on gates anyway), its not cheating, and I don't think that anyone who does that kinda thing is trying to get kills by generating lag, they are just trying to get decloaks. If we had a proper guideline (say no more than 50 or whatever), i think that the vast majority of people would respect that.

It's not really so much that we need some walls, as it is we just wish the guy in the ski mask would stop running out from behind the bushes and randomly clubbing us over the head.

Certainly not. I'm just communicating what the GMs told us when we dropped 15 cans on a gate :P
Apparently there is some arbitrary limit of 5 or somesuch.
It would be nice if they actually wrote this **** down somewhere so people could know what is ok and what is not.

Your allowed a certain amount of cans, I think it is indeed 5 and exceeding that limit constitutes an exploit that CCP will never actually enforce.

LeSkunk sort of has a point. But not really. There has to be a level of common sense inter-twined with the knowledge and understanding of the game by the Devs. And that has been seen as questionable at times. Hasn't it? Yes it has.
Who jumps all their alts in to a camp 10 times over? A tard- ban him for tarding Darwinism
And those who want to litter gates with 20,30,50 etc... cans or sit with however many pilots with probes out to decloak must be having some really crap luck hunting or getting some pvp action. In which case I'd say exploit if for no other reason than the fa'ottry of it all.
