I am just asking this because I haven't seen many Amarr ships out side of Amarr space of course. I don't do much venturing into Low/Null sec so I'm not sure but in most places I go I haven't seen an Amarr ship in days.

Because of projectile changes.

Umm. So what you're saying is that you only see Amarr ships doing Amarr missions? Because that would be due to damage type; lasers just don't work as well against non-Blood/Sansha NPCs. Get out to places where players shoot each other and you'll get your fair share of golden fleet action.

FOTM chasers are a large population. I imagine a good chunk traded their golden hulls of 2009 for rust in 2010 and 2011. (Unless of course, they hopped in a Drake instead.)
I suspect they'll all be flying Gallente by 2012, but we can only hope. ששששש

Amarr is still fairly popular. However, there has been a marked decrease in armor hacs, and zealots particularly since drakeblobs became the standard counter to them, and ofc good at other things. People don't fly RRBS anywhere near as much as they used to either. Amarr are good at lots of stuff, but they were amazing at mid range BS combat, and now thats just not a big deal. |

people like speed and Amarrs are not exactly nicknamed "Gonzales".
And on top of that shield tanking lets you use more damage mods so people prefer it.
On the bright side laser BS's are still very good at taking out high sec or WH POS's.

In FW I see mostly Minmatar/ Amarr ships, with a fair amount of Caldari and one or two Gayllente thrown in. :P and we Murie do enjoy our frigate/Thrasher gangs. :) -- "Far be it from me to stand in judgment. I prefer to sit." -Stephen Colbert |

A good portion of the amarr fw population are outlaws so rr is questionable at best with the current fw mechanics.
C'mon ccp apply the same fix to fw as you hastily did to incursions and instead of getting an instant standing hit along with gate gun fire just stop reps on outlaws that go gcc when you are actively repping them. This one change could literally save fw from the bin.

Logistics appear to be extremely unpopular with pirate and FW fleets. There's some aggression mechanics that do weird things like wreck your faction standings with your own faction.

As do I (or rather my main) and, yes, it would be considered Amarr....at least for the most part. The hull is based on the Armageddon and 2 of it's 3 bonuses are of Amarrian origin.
That being said, the Bhaalgorn is not really all that popular is it?

The Bhaalgorn is like the pretty girl who's single because everyone thinks she's out of their league. You can even make a direct parallel about the fear of being shot down immediately.

Actually no, there are mostly 2 reasons, huge speed combined with good range is always good to avoid undesirable fights/loses, make the gangs roam quicker and cane/drake gangs work ok without logi support and low skills. Pure amarr gangs don't really are like this, you need lots of well skilled and experienced players for it. This kind of gang format however still works quite good, from my first hand experience and I know corps in low sec that are successful with it and still consider it at as her main gang format for roaming(Harb, Absolution, Zealot, Guardian mix most of the time). It works quite good against the common shield buffer bc gangs.
Gallente hulls are not this good as pure gang format hulls(outside of niches like undock range or slow RR BS vs RR BS gang). However they where cool solo and it was always good to have 1-2 as heavy tacklers/dps against heavy tanked targets in the gangs, this this is more a utility role in smaller gangs(sub 20 ships), till a point where it isn't actually required at all. Even fixed there will not change much in gang formats like Liang posted and there will most likely no new fleet composition for bigger 0.0 fleets because of it, at least if CCP doesn't boost rails over the top or make blaster also med range weapons(both unlikely, and in the later case even very undesirable from the point of view of a blastervent). ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

Brick. Bricks are a guaranteed kill if you can keep it still long enough and can take the DPS it puts out.
That is the major disparity between armor and shield buffers. A shield buffer won't necessarily be depleted, but a brick will be.
The Bhaalgorn begs to be Triple X Repped. The exact fit, I won't post however. That's a mystery people will have to blob out of me :p

Amarr/minmatar fights are mostly harbs and canes, yes theres drakes on both sides, but far from even being as much as 50% common in fights.

Correction. Amarr/Minmatar fights are usually one side in Harbs and Canes, the other side in frigates and cruisers running back to station to grab BSes.

Well, over the past month on the amarr/minnie front I see the following gang types:
1) Vaga/cynabal/nanocane gangs with or without logi 2) Armor harb/cane gangs with or without guardians 3) Armor BS gangs with logi
Sometimes a drake will try to fit in with the nano shield gangs but tbh they aren't very good at it. Just too sluggish unless they slap on 2-3 nano's and then they don't do any dps. This is the same basic fleet composition I've seen for the past year there as well, no real changes. I haven't seen a single drake gang fielded by either the amarr or minmatar militia. Even shadow cartel who love their shield junk sticks with hurricanes mostly.
In regards to the original post, plenty of amarr ships are used in pvp. From what I've seen both in combat and buying replacement ships in jita (based on price), the abaddon is still the single most popular pvp BS followed closely by the armageddon. The typhoon and tempest are tied for 3rd it seems and the dominix rounds out the top 5. For BC's, the hurricane seems to be the general FoTM but the harbinger is still hugely popular.
Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |
