The original "Alien" has a warm spot in my heart because I was about 8yo when I saw it and I snuck in to the theater and saw it alone. Pretty sure I didn't sleep for a week.
Battle:LA was blech. Too much wrong with it and it seemed to be trying too hard to check off every block in the "war movie checklist." From "we're not leaving anyone behind" [spoiler: they leave a few behind] to "wake up, daddy" [spoiler: he doesn't] to "give this letter to my wife."
Regarding the mixture of uniforms noted above, I know they were mixing branches in several scenes...Army, Marines and MRod as the "tough as nails" Air Force member.
Also, since this note has gone on too far already I'll just add this: skip "Adjstment Bureau." I know you don't want to, but...trust me.
Son of a *****.... there goes any hope I had

Battle: LA to me was just a remake of Independence Day from the perspective of a Grunt, with some minor storyline adjustments. Wasted my $6.50 (matinee pricing thank god)

Nah uh... In Independence Day the aliens had shields and the humans had Will Smith

I walked out of the cinema when the marines picked a BRIGHT ORANGE bus to evacuate civilians...while hundreds of evil aliens were flying/walking around killing stuff.
That move was so ridiculously stupid, it was a bit like jumping a fully tobias/estamel fitted faction BS into EC-P without scouting on a saturday evening...absolutely ******ed.
It's been way too long since we got to see some good scifi...and I'm actually a fan of the whole "alien invasion" genre. But 99.9% of those movies suck. In the end the solution to killing the aliens is to "paint their ships with a laser, so human fighters can shoot them down"...or so I heard. That's also ******ed given the enormous size of the ships, not like you need to mark them...they stick out like crazy :D _______________________________________________

As a European I think we prefer films with more emphasis of the storyline and action around a small group rather than the spectacle of random displaced action. Like Cloverfield Skyline was like this. And the aliens were dark and sinister unlike the keystone cops aliens in Battlefield LA. There was some action scenes which threw the kitchen sink in as well. The storyline did go off beat sometimes but overall a decent scifi pop corn scifi movie.
If you like dark scifi\horror check out The Mist which has pitch perfect story line build up.
The ending in The Mist made me a sad panda
I hated the end of that F'n movie. That just totally sucked a**... like in an M. Night Shamaylan way.

Edited by: Sturmwolke on 21/03/2011 09:29:23 Just watched it, verdict = meh to crap. It just doesn't feel believable, from the actors and their acting, to the whole plot in general.
Near the end, I was wondering why the aliens had so much trouble from just what ... 6 marines? No alien artillery? No alien grenade launchers? No alien smart weapons? ... all they had was that sorry excuse of an air unit. And the alien command post can't even detect a painting laser? Heck, even modern MBTs have laser warning systems.
Blech! pathetic aliens
Edit: And why would the bloody aliens commit ground attack when nuking from orbit would be more efficient. At least, Independence Day got that part right - which no doubt contributed to its success. |

They were taking our water, they didn't want it irradiated because then it would suck

Well, aside from thermonuke fusion weapons, pulsed-frequency weapons and other exotic non-bio-hazardous weapons ... what will you do if say, I was the alien commander and decide instead to pull a few asteroids off orbit (from the belt) and set them on-course to wipe out human population centers & military targets?

They came to steal the water... synthesizing their own water would have also been a lot easier as hydrogen and oxygen aren't exactly that rare in the universe (from what we know). But an awesome USMC movie that wouldn't make

It wasn't in the script.
