650,000 pennies to pay his credit card.
I wonder how much I have sitting around in change. I have like 7 coffee cans filled with pennies, nickles and dimes...quarters all get used for laundry... - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Being American, I tend to have the mentality, that, if I have coins, just to toss them into a jar, and forget about them for a year or 3. However, I'm living in Canada, for Uni now, and instead of the American $1.00 bill, they give dollar coins in change. However, I still just toss them all into a jar, and forget about them, even though coins are actually a frequently used method of payment on smaller items.
Counted it the other day, over about 5 months, and discovered I've managed to accrue about $75 in coins. Made me happy .
Don't think the liquor store will be too happy about it though... -------------------

I had $90+ in coins, biggest one being a quarter at one point
now I just try to use a credit card for everything, carrying change in pockets is more of a pita than it is worth.
one time I was working the register at a food place and someone tried to pay in change, I took his word on what it was worth, a bit later when I had some free time I counted it and it was over by about a dollar.

I was once that annoying kid who pays for a Jamba Juice in nickels . The cashier actually took the time to count all $6.00. I wish I had a video camera to for her face, when my friend walked up with a bag of pennies... She did take them though. -------------------

I was lucky it looked like they were mostly quarters and whatnot, if they were all pennies I'd tell em to **** off. I was in a game store once and they were talking about a kid coming in earlier and buying the new shiny game (FFX I think it was) in pennies....

I used to collect coins in this massive 3 ft cola bottle I had. Now that I live in Europe I have to use change to park everywhere so it gets used pretty quickly. You don't find 'Coin Stars' in Europe. |

In UK supermarkets there are change converters that take coins and give you a voucher. I have used them a few times when I was desperate for cigarette money.
This machines are the anti-slot machine. They make the same chachingchachingchaching noise but even louder so a lot of people in check out queues look at the poor sod using the change converter

Yeah they have those in the US too, I don't think they're very accurate though, lots of coins get stuck in various parts of the machines. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Most of the change machines in the US take a percentage now, but I hear there are some bank branches that do not as long as you're a member.

There's a higher limit for larger coins. Strangely, the US is one of the few countries whose law contains no such limit, so the sort of thing seen in the OP is slightly more common there. --- 34.4:1 mineral compression |

He should have called the police. He doesn't have to roll them or count them. They have to take it and if they don't trust it is enough they have to count it.

Edited by: GizzyBoy on 21/03/2011 14:40:31 my granddad back in the day had a debt with a local store and they where in a disagreement and where getting antsy at him, so he paid a penny just to pee them off, the head cashier threw the penny out the window when he tried to make a payment.
The cashier was promptly arrested for disrespecting the king (penny is legal tender and had the kings face on it) store promptly forgot about the debt.
ah the olden days eh =)

Just a heads up, every penny that you have that was produced, I belive, between 1962-1982 is probably worth 3 cents Unfortunately, there is no leagal way to attain that value
Also, those coin exchange machines are one of the biggest scams IMO, considering the above and other issues.

No, if they did it would give you a piece of paper admitting you just got scammed and wouldn't give you the money
