Sorry if this is a repost, I have had a quick search and can't find anything that is along the lines of what I am after.
Is the Proteus suitable for lvl4 missions? Obviously the Tengu is the preferred T3 for missioning, but I don't like missile boats. Does anyone currently run missions in a prot? How do you find it? What is your current fit?
Just looking at killing some time and getting used to the boat before I drive it out somewhere more "risquT"... thanks for any input!

No.
Anything the Proteus can do in L4s can be done better by an Ishtar (or, hell, even a Deimos). ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

It's a bit of overkill but sure the Proteus works just fine. Blasters mean that it isn't very efficient but it is fun for a while zooming about on MWD and shoving heavy neutrons up rat tailpipes.
In the long run though you are better off with a Tengu or Ishtar or something else with better range.

I have been running them in an Ishtar, which is amusing and very easy. I'm just looking for something different. The problem I have with the Ishtar, is getting caught in webs, scary stuff. So a proteus just seems a tad more robust, and a bit more fun. Just wondered if anyone else was doing it...

I just started using them. Was using a Navy Domi for the longest time and then a Rattlesnake. It's a matter of opinion, but i find the Proteus much more fun for missioning. I fly it like a frigate, MWD between targets melt their faces. The dps is greater then both the afore mentioned ships - for me and my fits at least. My mission time has significantly decreased and i am able to get more missions in less time. Skillwise, i only really have most skills to 3 so it's only going to get better as i finish training.
This is my fit. It's not Battleclinic approved or anything but it certainly works for me. Of course use mission specific armor hardeners
[Proteus, PVE] Corpum C-Type Medium Armor Repairer Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Armor Explosive Hardener II Armor Explosive Hardener II Armor Explosive Hardener II
Cap Recharger II Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Cap Recharger II Stasis Webifier II
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Antimatter Charge M
Medium Nanobot Accelerator I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Proteus Defensive - Nanobot Injector Proteus Electronics - CPU Efficiency Gate Proteus Propulsion - Localized Injectors Proteus Offensive - Hybrid Propulsion Armature Proteus Engineering - Capacitor Regeneration Matrix
Hammerhead II x5
i love this ship and wish i didn't waste time training for BS for missioning.

I used to use the loki for missions. and yeah it is fun.. for a while to have to zoom up to each and every mob but after a while that novelty wears VERY thin.. Got the tengu now.. i hate missiles but i cant deny it is faster even with less dps as i can apply it much sooner.

why go ishtar when you can go gila :) or if you are rich go snake...
you dont even need to use missles on them if you want...
though you could always go old school and go domi with 350's :)
i would not bother using a blaster boat untill they get boosted in late 2011 early 2012...
ifyou really dont like missles and are bored of drones go for a vargur... or slipnir... or a sexy mach:)

Because the Ishtar does the job betterà
àbut that goes back to the whole "what are you after" question. Gila offers slightly different gameplay, and if that's what you want, it's certainly up for it. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Don't bother even trying / lost cause.
Would've been nice if gal had their best cruiser made even better by t3, as is the case with the other races...
Alas - your drone subsystem won't even allow you to launch a full set of heavies/sentry... too bad, so sad.
Coulda, woulda should've been a good ship.
The only role right now is a super diemost, as fail concept as the diemost it , they made yet another one...

Proteus is awesome for all lvl4s, don't listen to these guys.
It has a monster tank with the nanobot injectot subsystem.
6 Heavy Nuetron blasters means nothing gonna live long enough to even put any hurt on you.
Yes it has travel time in missions but thats what MWD are for and @ 1500 MS nothings too far away :)

àwhich is rather irrelevant since you don't need a monster tank in L4s, especially not if you intend to fly around a lot.

àbut even with MWDs, you have a travel time between each ship. The blasters don't do nearly enough damage to outweigh the (still) massive loss of damage output the travel incurs.
Again, it's perhaps more fun than an Ishtar, but it is not more effective.
Oh, and McPod: yes, MWDs work in all kinds of deadspace these days. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

MWD use in deadspace is now able since the 18th 01/2011 -try again and you'll see it works fine. If you use gallente ships you're better in a drones ship or Rails than blasters, MWD or not, and has long has blasters will suck. (rails too but it's more the dps/tracking stuff) ________________________________________________
