If you click a character information in eve gate you can view all that characters contacts! This making it more easier to find spys and make other informative possible moves.
Have Fun!

It's a feature, not an exploit.
You can disable that feature from your profile settings.

I still find it funny how people can judge that someone is a spy just by looking at his/her contact list. Play the game for some time and move around a little and soon you'll have a lot of people you met over that time in your contact list. From all over the universe and thus members of different major and minor alliances / power blocks etc.
I find it somewhat disgusting how that makes me a major security risk aka "an ebil spy" for some people. A good RL friend of mine even is most of the time with "the enemy" no matter were I or he goes we always end up on opposite sites. I bet that last sentence bought me a permanent VIP ticket on many "recruitment black lists" of those so called "major players" in the sov holding business. ----------------------------- OMG THE SKY IS FALLING! Contract me all your stuff so I can save it! |

If we didn't have to log in to opt out, they couldn't claim lots of us were using it and how successful it was though.
Personally my contact list is full of reds - it's the best way to see when your enemies (especially hostile titan pilots etc) come online (and I'm too lazy to set standings for everyone in that so they're all set neutral).
Shame on CCP for making it opt out instead of opt in as default. |

You have to log in to Space Book every time they do an update because you can never trust CCP to not introduce a new information leak and have the default set to "No, thanks, but no, just no, not now, not ever."

I believe it's a tool to broadcast status messages to your associates on spacebook. Like "eating a sandwich right now MMMHHHH sooo tasty" or other really important stuff. --

For you no brainers... Let me give you an example of how this can be used...
I have infiltrated a corp and i can see that ceos address book has my main and spy alt added. Now i know not to log both accounts off at the same time, otherwise he will know they are linked.
And there are many others too...

The best bit is having to do it for all characters on the account separately. One of the joys of having 7 accounts ---

Welcome to a thread from last year.
I cannot see how its an exploit since CCP warned all players that this was going to happen and that you would have to go in and change the settings to keep your contacts private. If you did a search you would find a number of threads discussing this decision and asking CCP to make it opt in and not opt out as far as privacy is concerned.
If memory serves it originally only shows those with +5 or greater standing and as a result the general consensus before launched was to drop everyone's standing for +10 to 4.99 so they did not show. I cannot remember if CCP said that they planned to change it after a grace period to show all or not.
As others have said it was cynical ploy to force people to use space book, so CCP can say how many people are using their new feature. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

That's not how it happened.
They released it on Sisi will no privacy options and default everything exposed to anyone in your contact list.
This data was spidered by the "spy master" types and they now datamine it for connections between players.
After 10 pages of complaints CCP added the privacy options....... Too late.
Now every few months we need to login to EveGate to ensure no extra options have been added or reset. While every new player and carebare corp is exposed by default.
The thing is that CCP is very confused about what they want from a social network.
* They want to "grow the social graph" by increasing the connections between players. * Then they limit the connections between players to 300. lol * Default Privacy options expose things about players which will get them killed. * Integrated stuff, yet no App engine, no OpenSocial or OpenID, or Facebook API. * A social network written in ASP?!?!

You know what i totaly agree.
Also if CCP is serious about make a social network for eve players they can make a start by removing all the bull**** content like the pretty pictures/styles and links from eve gate etc.
It's embarrassing to go on that site at uni or at work.
Atleast make a simple LITE version of evegate for us older people.
