I've always wanted for there to be a percentage chance of a "monster" or some kind of enemy spawning when you start mining an asteroid. I have no other information to give on this idea, simply because I do not care enough about it to think up such information. . |

CCP have been clear. Eve is a fight between humans and not a fight against aliens.
Given that a small missile is a nuke, how do you expect something natural to survive for more then a few seconds (lock time) and threaten a ship designed to withstand small nuke explosions going off against its hull?
As for having a "monster" spawn when you start mining. Have you mined in anything below 0.9 if so you will know that rats do spawn. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

You dropped acid didn't you. You also imagined that it grew legs and accidentally the hole thing.
Yeah, yeah you did.

Is it safe? Can I laugh now? This was a pretty amusing topic and in all seriousness I can't see anything "monster like" other then rogue and sleeper drones. Well now that you mention asteroid monster, a certain giant tunneling worm living in an asteroid that can swallow a certain fast ship comes to mind...

Yeah, I know rats do spawn. I was just being silly.
HOWEVER, I do have a somewhat decent-ish Idea on lowering the monotony of mining, based on my more silly idea.
Have a small percentage chance each time you start mining an asteroid, that the rat spawn will be upgraded to a higher class. So as such in a 1.0 it may cause a frig group to spawn, although very rare(for VARIETY!) or such in a .5 it may cause a cruiser group to spawn. you know, add more non ganking risk to mining, and of course the chance would increase slightly in losec.
I do however approve of Space whales, you can never go wrong with that. . |

..maybe small incursion squads flying into random belts on a low percentage would be good?

What about Rick Roll spawning in the asteroid belt? That would be worse than current npc rats, right?

Either that or have a random chance of Chuck Norris. . |

:) chuck Norris, floating around the asteroids, mining with his teeth...
If seriously, npc rats are already present in asteroid belts, the lower sec status of the system, the more bad-ass rats spawn. Asteroid belts have to be changed other way, make the environment there constantly changing, which would require more player effort. That would kill mining bots. Maybe requirement to approach larger asteroids closer in order to mine them while avoiding smaller ones from hitting you. Mining not the whole asteroid lump, but maybe scanning down and mining specific parts of it, rich with minerals (while those small asteroids are worthless) etc.
