I would like to suggest an introduction of Sonar Equipment that can detect cloaked ships, say a range of 5-10km, that can only be equipped by a Destroyer. That way, it can counter the "scouts" during warfare and as such. "I came, I saw, I conquer." - Julius Caesar |

The best way to revamp the cloaking system is through heat. Make the cloaking devices absorb heat while turned on and they will eventually burn out. This will allow the cloak to still be affective while limiting the ability to sit afk in systems all day.

Hey brosef you mad. Anyways i am not concerned with you wee little noobs in bombers sitting around all day cloaked. I am simply tired of this ever going talk of nerfing the cloaks and everyone's ******ed solutions. This is a solution that would work have very little negative effect on active players and will not be very hard to change. Besides it will be nice to see titans get caught in system when the cloak burns out.

It's just another terrible idea, that only really affects the active cloakers and U MAD for suggesting it.

I, for one, support the realistic implementation of sonar in eve.

I suggest a module that sends out a pulse like a smart bomb about 14au (same range as a directional scan) that if it comes in contact with a cloaked ship it will instantly uncloak it. Now this doesn't stop a "active" player from just re-cloaking but a afk guy will be in trouble also you could form a fleet with one guy going around pulsing to try to uncloak said cloakers while another is using directional scan trying to pick the claoker up and a third with combat probes trying to locate them

yeah that must be it. because your so smart that you being active can't figure out that a 4 hour limit for a cloak is about to expire and you should fix it. so U MAD BROSEF? because it solves all the problems everyone has. It is stupid to suggest sonar. It is even worse to have an AOE decloking mod. So you put a time frame that can't be beat with a macro. if your active it only effects you if you are to stupid to manage your time. Beside a 4 hour roam is a long time.

Heat on cloaks would balance them a lot! AFK cloakers ruin the game no matter how carebarish, newb, wimps... etc people are. While that person is AFK cloaking it's wasting the time of active paying customers who would otherwise be doing things that require you to be at your keyboard. AFK cloaking in enemy systems is essentially the same as botting.
Another way to balance afk cloaking would be to add a skill for probing them down. A probe that can detect gravity interference produced by the size of ships or something... idk. Anything is better than nothing at this point.
This is one of the main things I hate about Eve Online...

t3 afk cloaky
ship skill 5, 25% heat reduction engineering subsystem 5 - coolant sub 25% heat reduction Thermodyamics 5, 25% heat reduction
Lots of nano paste.
Can simmer for quite a while.
PLus your idea only shuts down afk cloakies. Who aren't there in the first place. No danger to you. Non afk cloaky...will just safe up, turn off and on as needed. Springs for eccm/sensor backup...hard to porbe during these cycles (assuming you are even outside to look for them).
Afk cloaky in system....slum it in a bc. Train a drake, they rat decent even only with HML 4, arbs. If in serp or gurista space, enjoy a nice kinetic bonus. Mommies...don't drive by drakes. Its sadder than popping 2 day noobs in navitas' in empire. If they are that sad...cheap loss and a funny story to tell about how you are so bad, need super caps to kill you in a bc. Cyno and the mommy don't even get the mods to cover gas for the drive by and sure as hell not worth their time.
Cloaky stealth bomber you might say....drake pve tank will live a full bomb/topr strike. SB stays, sb' goes pop. They run away most times. They get motivated to try 3-4 bomb runs on you...there goes his dps once last bomb dropped. Leaves to rearm and gratz...system is cloaky free for a bit.
Yes bc is an isk per hour hit. Some isk better than no isk I always say.

I hate to be the one who states the obvious here, but you DO know sonar won't work in space, right? Sonar is based on sound.

I would like to see it be more of a skill to use a cloak than a hide forever button. I am not scared of these noobs in cloakies i fly an ishtar bombs do nothing and the torps hit for sad dps.
I just want people to have to do more than sit. I want active pvp. Not this i will sit here for 3 days until a hauler comes then pop it and act like i pvp attitude. I think it was originally suppose to be a strategic advantage for use against big fleets Not this hide all day tactic it has become. It would encourage more strategy if it had a time limit. That's all Not a you can't come and be stealthy just you need to be active.

Indeed you are, you've not even given full details on the idea. A 4 hour time frame was added at some point by yourself, without any idea how that could be achieved.
Misanthra has already pointed out a get around for your fail idea, but you seemed to have avoided responding to that post. I wonder why? There are other ways I can think of, that would avoid the over heat issue, whilst afk at a deep safe. The fact that you've failed to see any of these, speaks volumes for you and your idea.
Originally by: blazeyadeadhommie So just STFU until you come up with an idea.
I don't need to come up with an idea, because cloaks are fine. The issue is in your head, it's fear and a weak mind creating the problem. This is all helped greatly by the magic of local.
TL:DR. NO U

Your right Mag's your run and hide button works perfectly and therefore is not broken.
Just your ability to do anything but hide.
Keep defending that cloaking device with all your might for it will defend you with all of it's.

no to some time limit on cloaking. if you are ACTIVELY griefing you shoulld be allowed to do so for as long as you wish. no the Sonar equipment bit. 5 to 10 km is useless and cloaks are meant for scouting/getting deep into hostile areas. take that away in any way and they become useless.
the only issue i have with cloaks is those who log in, cloak up and go to work for the next 10 hours. it makes griefing way too easy. and ought to have some amount of a counter.
i think a slow scanner (20 minutes) that provides a very rough idea of the location of the ship is a good idea. It would give you something like a 100km radius that the cloaked ship is somewhere within. and you would warp to random points within. if the ship is truly AFK you will find it eventually. but you're putting your balls out there in doing so - if it is not AFK then it will simply leave, or attack/cyno... so its up to you whether its worth hunting down or not.
it would, at the very least, make for an interesting game mechanic.
