I know what you are thinking here's another pilot whining about cloaking. Not True!!! I like cloaking and think this game would be downgraded without it. That's why im asking CCP to adjust the cloaking method. Here is the main reason the current way is not. Enmity cloaking in anomalys not allowing it to respawn after you finish it. You like to fight them but they just want to cloak 23 hours a day.
It would be better to make cloaking devices run on isotopes of that ships race or liquid ozone. This would cure the stuck player state that the current way is doing. Making the cloaker do something after a period of time or he will run out of fuel. This would raise prices on iso or lo making the miners a bit happier (not that i care, sorry miners)and other effect i see is more cloaking ships would die raising the price a bit there. I like to cloak but i dont like to hide! Please post your pros and cons to this!

Edited by: LittleTerror on 20/03/2011 00:12:22 Edited by: LittleTerror on 20/03/2011 00:10:06 I'd actually like the covert ships to come with a built in scanner that emits a beep when ever another cloaker is on the grid, that beep becomes faster as they move closer. Getting to their location would of coarse require a special set of probes which in most cases can only get you as close as say 500km from the target, which then you would have to slow boat while cloaked towards the beep. At least then they could not simply sit afk, even if they used some sort of macro to warp between safes several covert ops pilots could eventually find them by simple waiting for them to warp back on grid and then resume there approach.
Then once the beeping is fast enough and steady warp in a large blob deploy drones bubble kill
Sure they would be aware people are looking for them as they would also have a beeping sound but at least they can't just walk away from the keyboard for 23 hours. |

I see what you did there.
I'll agree, if only probing/scanning works in a local-less system.

Its an old and stupid idea, the only thing needed to change are the common cloaks which can cloak every single ship.

Here's my suggestion.
1. First Completely redo the directional scanning system and local channel. Make it to where directional auto-updates with the Local info so you don't spam the system constantly. Have the Local Channel act like all the others, if you don't talk you don't appear in channel. Have both a "passive" and an "active" signature response.
If you do talk in local, you "brighten up" your signature on directional. If you hit the scan button, you "brighten up" your signature on directional. If you activate your MWD you "brighten up" your signature on directional. If you "Active" target someone you "brighten up" your signature on directional. If you are radiating energy of any kind, (salvagers, tractor beams, mining lasers, etc...) you "brighten up" your signature on directional.
The Brighter your signature is, the more someone can know about you. You might even get a "warp-to" lock on a really active signature.
2. If your probing skills are good enough, a covert-ops may appear as an Anomaly of some kind. Allowing you to get on grid with them. If their signature is low enough, ie, "running silent", they will not appear on the overview or directional, unless you are "actively" scanning.
3. Allow Covert-ops to passively target while cloaked. Note: Firing weapons or Bombs will uncloak them due to the 2km distance rule. ---

Quoting this sentence for posterity, will be filed under "Dumbest post of the month". Complaining about someone "walking away from the keyboard" is about as stupid as two bald men arguing over a comb. If they aren't at their keyboards, they aren't much of a threat are they?
And if they aren't AFK, then none of your brilliant solutions are worth anything are they? Its about time you people got a grip, you are just humiliating yourselves.

confirming that this is a ninja whine about the fact that time quoted was 23 and not 23.5 (if we KNEW they were afk to begin with we wouldn't have this problem. If you can scan them down as described then they aere obviously afk, so lets pop and pod them so that there is no doubt that when they do come back to the computer there wont be any threat then either )

if a solution were needed .. if ..
just introduce a new class of probe specifically designed to scan down cloaked ships. make it skill intensive and hard and perhaps chance based also. but make it possible. job done.
i am a cloaker myself and I agree that it needs to be counterable or succeptible to concerted efforts to break or locate cloaked ships by skilled players.
initially I was thinking cycle time with decreasing effectiveness etc but macro is king. so just letting people scan down cloaked ships, within limits and reason and skill and chance, seems reasonable and I'd be happy to see it implemented to find and kill me. it makes eve more interactive and more exciting and harder. thats good stuff.
everything should have an achilles heel in this game and be vulnerable to player skill and persistence. just saying. my opinion. flame away.

Ok some people are clearly just stupid. AFK cloaker enters system, warps to safe and cloaks, everyone in local poops pants and docks. Why?
Before Mr AFK cloaker can do anything he has to de-cloak and then if he wants to bring in his friends he has to drop a cyno. Now if you little whiners had someone out with standard probes doing nothing but running scans then the second Mr "AFK" drops his cloak to light that covert cyno, he is gonna show up on scan.
Now unless you are utterly stupid you have more than enough time to either safe up and log off, or dock up long before any inbound ships arrive. So quit whining, quit asking CCP to hold your damn hands and get on with the game.

More whining from Russian botters.
I think I'll move an alt over that way and see what all the fuss is about. Then you can have two "AFK cloakers" in system.

Shame that titan dont do surrounding doomsdays would love to see a fleet try to take space and a titan cloaked on the gate they come through
uncloak and pop everyone
cloaking is good espically for people using smart bombs in empire
just creep up to that person cloaked and let him hit you
instant concord gratification. cloaking would be more effective if local were gone.

"Please post your pros and cons to this!"
There is a unproductive critic in every bunch. First off this post didnt ask for you opinion on Russian's (which i am not) nor boting (which i NEVER did) Why dont you be mature, be respective and post or dont post base on the subject! Yea i know this is a game, and with that some children. However this is EVE a MMORPG = Role Playing = Treat this like RL in a way please. I dont mind constructive criticism just post useful information plz. Have a good day!!!

Helpful Tip; If your Sanctum is not re-spawning because an "AFK Cloaker" is in system, then you know exactly where he is! Go get 'em.... He's sitting on grid at the Sanctum. < Facepalm > ---
