Hey all,
Just started this char to be my Manufacturing/invention guy. I have a rough idea on what sort of skills I need to get, but Do i need to do any missions? IE - for the Datacores? I'm Mimitar, is there any corp that is recommended I do the missions with?

Don't bother raising your standings for RP collection. If you do invention seriously you have to buy a truck load of datacores anyway.
If you continously run missions with your main and you like to have research agents on the long shot, than check out this site.

If you want to do datacore farming, you might look at Boundless Creation. They are a bit of a pain, since most agents are in low sec (and they only have two level 4s), but they are very close together and make collecting (in a Cov Ops) relatively easy. Just watch out in Hagilur (gate-campers) and Evati (pirates).

:) I have traveled through Evati for years now to collect datacores, and never really had trouble with The Bastards, but don't run missions there (there is a storyline agent in Evati). Make sure your 'trigger' mission is closer to Nakuguard  TBs don't usually gate camp, although I have seen one or two between there and Anher occasionally. I think there is a level 2 and level 4 agent in Evati for Boundless. Hagilur is more of an issue, often big gate camps there as you head toward Evati - but again, a cov ops should have no probs.
Edit: I used to have several safe-spots in system, so I could warp to one and hang out for a while, then warp to another. It is the system I learned to watch for combat probes in. A cloak is kind fun if you want to mess with scanners...

I'd skip the datacore stuff if I were you. It's profitable but the investment in time and skillpoints probably isn't worth it. Besides, as others have said you'll never be able to farm anywhere near the datacores you'll need.
One thing you should consider is getting somewhat into PI. Get all the PI skills at 4 and get yourself a rigged mammoth if you're not already training for an itty V/obelisk. Try to build something like coolant, mechanical parts or uranium to sell and offset your POS fuel bill with. The training involved with PI should be 14-16 days with a mammoth adding another week or so. It should be done at the beginning of your training plan so you can use the profits to partly finance your further training.
