In my dev blog I mentioned that we're aiming to deliver a Work in Progress, development version of the Captain's Quarters to the Singularity test server.
Unfortunately I bring bad news. This will have to wait until after Fanfest.
Normally taking a version of the static data (gameplay values of EVE, or simply content) into a production build for deployment and quality assurance is a straightforward process. With Captain's Quarters we ran into issues with the sheer mass of changes, sneaky legacy static data changes that have never been in a live production build and defects masking other underlying defects. In the end we simply ran out of time in our deployment schedule to get the build into your hands on time.
We'll unveil the details on this first Incarna feature in the coming Friday at Fanfest. This will include what's been developed so far, what will be done before the summer expansion and the plans we have for Incarna features in the expansions to come. I'll get back to you with an updated test server date after we have recuperated from the coming week of healthy sports and some modest recreational activities.

On a personal note, if you could apply your normal defintion of "Soon" (ie - never) then I'd be very grateful.
I for one have no desire to play Second Life In Space.

^^ this. not remotely interested in dressing up in a self contained environment. however I do appreciate that its an incremental roll out of a product you havent finished yet. or probably designed yet.
looking forward to summer. especially turning off eve and going outside and stuff while all the ponies play with their gravity defying girl bits.

Why do I get the feeling that after all these years of supposed incarna development they are really only seriously starting to work on it now.

Overpromise? Check. Underdeliver? Check. Good to know we're still playing Eve.
I only tease those I love. Really disappointed that we can't try it out though.

What's even more depressing is listening to people complain about a huge game expansion that they,
a) can choose not to participate in, but probably will anyway.
b) are getting for free.
If I thought EVE was just about attrition and numbers I'd go roll dice instead.

I think you need to look up the definition of "free," because expansions aren't.
That said, it bites to hear that there's still too much trouble with Incarna.
Show it to us anyways.
If you can get a version even running for fanfest, that would be awesome.

Seems that way doesn't it? Either that or they've gone through a Duke Nukem-esque re-re-re-redevelopment cycle which I suspect is what really happened.
I can understand totally unexpected bugs though, I suppose. This is a big new feature. Big bugs will happen. Even something that seems minor becomes a real ***** to fix.
Things like tracking agents or corp member lists or fleet lists that say where a character last was or and what ship they're in... what happens to them? Where are station characters considered to be in the game? And how old is all that code?
It's been in there for ages. Hopefully this means they can rewrite some of that old crap while they're fixing all the new bugs.

I underestand that but if they have been working on incarna for literally years this should have been something that was found much earlier in the dev cycle. Unless as you said they have been pulling a dnf and have trashed the code to the bin several times and this is the latest redo.

Just look at the old presentations when "Dynamic Lightning" was the next big thing and compare to the more recent clothing animation demos.
My guess would be that initially Ambulation was meant to be an EVE project - as plans for WoD started to mature CCP decided to trash its old work on Ambulation/WiS and start anew with a shared codebase between WoD and Incarna.
The mere fact that this beast has had 3 different codenames so far is quite telling imo.

The way it was stated, they are uncovering some old bugs, which may be down fairly deep in the code. Code used even when we are flying. Bugs that effect us when we are flying. This means it may be that work on Incarna may actually find bugs that cause lag.

I dimly remember from an off hand remark in a Dev blog, that this is about right. What we currently see in the char editor (aka Incarna) is a completely new and relatively young project. I persume everything before it got a

No offence to those who want this feature, just looking for the choice.

so why not follow what you normally do and push it out, fix the major bugs and leave all the small ones. then start work on the next feature and forget about all the bugs, broken ships, lag, exploits, sov, 5th subsystems for t3s and countless other things that should be fixed before expanding the game?

Thanks for the update - sucks that it isn't ready, but I think it was to be expected that that kind of issue would crop up in testing; just too bad it was that severe. Good to hear you guys are on it, and can't wait to check it out when it's ready!
