Knowing a little more about what you have tried would be really helpful here. It seems you already know that its an issue with the EVE voice module having a divide by zero issue and throwing an exception, but you don't tell us anything about the fixes you have tried. Also how long since you filed your petition, just out of curiosity?

The first thing you need to try, if you haven't already, is to disable your firewall and see if EVE runs.

1) disable the sound before logging on to a character 2) make sure both SFX and GFX drivers are up to date 3) make sure your ram is error free 4) post back here --

Just wanted to point out that the sound environment might be a (the) root of your problem. Vivox is related to Eve voice.

disable audio and eve voice in the settings. ie start game hit esc see the settings , make sure audio its off and in the same area is eve voice , i think. Also on your petition to help it move along faster , did you include the dxdiag file? that will help them and stop a delay.
if problem is fixed by doing so please post back , maybe help someone else too

It seems that the VIVOX software is looking for this in system32 and when it can't find it, the system simply ceases to work thus causing EVE to crash. That is also why disabling voice chat will let you run EVE.
.dll for voice
The .dll is a dns resolver that EVE voice needs in order to allow the software to connect to the VIVOX servers, though why it would cause EVE to crash is beyond me. I know EVE voice is now an integral part of the software, but what I don't understand is why it would need its own DNS resolver, why can't it simply use the same function as EVE itself?
Small update: You may also want to try adding the ports listed here to your firewall as VIVOX maintain and host EVE voice on their own servers and carrier grade lines, so that is the reason for the seperate DNS resovler api.dll.
ports used by VIVOX
Good luck
EDIT: for silly spelling mistakes

Sounds silly, and probably is (since you already know its related to eve voice) try deleting Eve and reinstalling fresh?
Outside of that, you could delete the vivoxsdk.dll in the \bin folder and run the repair.exe file see if that helps.
Also, check to see if you're sound card drivers are up to date (Check the laptop manufacturer's page, failing that, check the developer's page for the integrated chip, sometimes they have newer drivers that aren't "for your laptop"

I've been having the same problem with a new netbook. It's able to play Left 4 Dead and Crysis so it should be able to play Eve. This is the the message I'm getting after the progress bar get's to around 80%.

I've alsow sent an email to Vivox. Don't know how that will turn out. If more info is needed tell me how to get it and I'll post it as all and any relevent info may help.

Confirming this error takes place on newer laptops with windows 7 installed.
I was able to work around this issue by disabling sound completely and re-enabbling it after getting past character selection ingame.
Please let me/us know if this works for any of you.

I had the same problem on my Windows Starter netbook (Toshiba NB550D) and disabling eve voice in the character selection window worked fine (I still haven't gotten round to updating the DLL and putting it in \windows\system32)
On the other hand, at home I have windows 7 64bit (Home Premium) and 32bit (Also home premium) and it works fine with no modifications. Wondering if this is a Windows 7 Starter issue - there are a lot of braindead restrictions that M$ built into Win7 starter and it wouldn't surprise me. Is anyone else having this problem running win7 starter ?

Edited by: Doctape on 22/06/2011 23:35:48 I've upgraded to 4Gb of ram and Win7 x64 and was still getting that problem. So it really seemes like a software vs new hardware issue. Worked for me too when I turned EVE-Voice off. I have a Acer Aspire One 522 (the one with the AMD C-50 APU).

I just installed Eve on a tablet PC and spent several hours with the same problem as reported here. Turning off Eve Voice fixed the crash for me.
Side note: The tablet actually runs Eve pretty well. Turned down settings, and even CQ works fine.
