I'd like to point out a major issue, but first I'd like to give an example to be able to relate the situation.
A user (A) accesses a server and deletes a file from a directory on that server. Another user (B) needs that file, yet can't find it since the user A deleted it. User A wants to find out what happened to the file and contacts Administrator. Administrator goes into the logs and tracks down that user A delete the file. User A gets fired!
Eve has thousands of players who pay good money (to CCP) and a lot of their time to build things. A lot of those items are Cap ships and other various expensive things.
If a corporation does everything necessary to lock down their POS and its arrays through roles and titles, when stuff DOES come up missing, there is no way to track who took what or who did what with some type of equipment. Hence no way to troubleshoot as to what could have happened.
If a real-world server/desktop can track changes in file structures and user access in event logs, why is there no such feature for ship arrays and other POS equipment?
Here is a response by a GM on a petition for a request for information: ------------------------------------ I am afraid that I can not do that. Our policies prevent us from providing you with any information which you would not be able to acquire using normal in-game methods.
Sadly the only information that I can give you here is that the items in question were removed within normal gameplay.
Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best regards, GM XXXXX EvE Online Customer Service Support -------------------------------------
Personally I believe, there's something wrong with that response. WE place our trust in the GM's, and that they are not malicious. Yet, we cannot get specific answers when BILLIONS of ISK worth of equipment disappears, despite proper precautions being taken? There is something wrong in that system, whether it is that we cannot track access to equipment via ID's and time stamps or whether it is a plain refusal for information.
For all I know that GM took no time and effort for the given situation and swept the incident under the rug.
I'll put it this way:
- Arrays were offlined
- The lost capital ships were in the arrays
- Only limited and trusted individuals had knowledge of our WH/POS location
- There were only limited corp pilots that could fly the specific cap ships that were lost
- Those pilots were not online at the time of the incident (our RECORDS do show that)
I highly recommend some type of access tracking feature for POS equipment. If it is that easy to track how a file got moved/deleted, then we HAVE TO be able to have a feature within Eve that tracks equipment access. Otherwise, CCP is not giving players enough tools to fix problems like this when they crop up. This petition could have been avoided with that type of a feature, and I might actually still trust GM's. At this point, a GM's word is not trusted and really makes me evaluate whether paying CCP on a monthly basis, when they can't even give a straight and reasonable answer, is worth it.

Gee... really? I couldn't figure that out...
Which exactly points out the issue in my post.
Only the proper individuals, people who started the corp YEARS ago, who have invested their time and money into the stuff that has gone missing, have the access to the equipment.
So, which brings me back to my point. If CCP isn't willing to provide access records, then access records MUST be provided in the game. Auditing, if not available, is just a loophole that can be exploited. Everyone pays money... if CCP leaves loopholes for REAL MONEY to be stolen then I'd re-evaluate staying with a game that doesn't provide records.

Welcome to EVE. I do feel that you should be able to have more control over access to POS modules but at the end of the day being able to rob a corp is a part of EVE.
Just because a server can do it is not a valid argument because my server lets me bring back stuff I or anyone else deleted. With your argument I should be able to magically bring back ships that get destroyed. It is a game mechanic. I am not against adding more elements of control to POS. I just want to make sure you understand that you do not have a good argument as it is mostly RAGE about getting robbed.
I also believe that you cannot post Petition responses on the forum so you might want to make sure you remove that. The GM response is perfectly accurate and I see no reason why you should get the logs. I do think they should add some kind of records or increased access controls but a GM should not give you information unavailable in game. ------ Support Manalapan for CSM!

if your corp mates were not online at the time the theft occured how is it possible the robbers gained access? Not in corp?
They knew the POS password?
