So I get a tackle on a golem in 0.0, my mates warp in to finish him off and suddenly he shouts in local: I pay. So I put a ridiculous amount in local: 600M and immediately my wallet goes blink and I'm like wtf.
I've never had to do with ransoms but my mates valued the kill more, after quite a bit of shouting I inform the pilot that we have a disagreement in our group and kill him anyhow and I give the ISK back.
But I could have just flown off with it in my wallet, and I've got a double feeling now. True to myself, not so true to my wallet.
Just wanted to vent.

personally, if i lost a carebear ship like that, i'd make a note of the names of the killers. then i'd station up whenever they showed up in local. there might not be a next time.

Sounds like your worst enemy is the rest of your gang. On top of all your other problems, they want to keep you poor.

Seriously. I refuse to pirate with anyone who doesn't honor ransoms.

Considering you got the tackle and got the isk by your own initiative, one of 2 things should have happened for you. First, you don't honor the ransom because you never do it. Do this a few times though and you never will get a ransom, your call. With what happened though IF you are in need of money (keeping a significant portion of 600m, like 200m, is a lot to you) then you sure as hell better have gotten some of the good drops off that golem, otherwise yes, you are flying with some a**hats. Considering you did all the work, you can always find people to throw on top of the dps pile

pirates honor ransoms, griefer d'cks doesnt. knowing which is which is tricky - but most often will the griefer di'k live in a hisec system and not come near lowsec, as the kills are more easy in hisec.
i have honored all my ransoms, as all ransoms against me was honored.

Its a set of written or unwritten rules that defines the general population of eve-pirates.
In this context, its about not shooting the guy in the face when he has just paid you 50 mill not to do so.

Dishonoring a ransom is no different than scamming, stealing or lying. Eve isnt fair, your just putting yourself at a disadvantage.

As a pirate your putting yourself to a disadvantage when no one is paying ransoms, because they get popped anyway.

If I get the ransom money, awesome I'm richer and get a kill. If I don't, I just get the kill.
I was looking for the kill either way, so the money is just icing on the cake. I don't see why I should honor ransoms.

You tackled it, it's your kill. Most pilots would rather have 600m in their wallet than a KM they'll forget about in a few days.
