After looking at keynote...
Endless questions were posted about gameplay in Incarna. They were finally met with a total silence.
Can't say it was big surprise. Welcome to the Virtual Mirror Online.
The only good thing with this many-years-long project is that it will - I really hope - improve new player experience. Then they will become not so new players... what then ?

Did you miss the fact that they said it'd be touched on a bit more at CCP Presents tomorrow? ---- --- ---

Maybe they will show more tomorrow?
Or keynote is where they would cover expansion entirely?

I was pretty disappointed about the keynote.
Fist thing that raised major flags for me is when the character customization people talked one of their points on the powerpoint slide was that they could put so much detail into it because they only had the 1 character displayed And so the character can have hugely complex models and textures and scars and all that.
And Captain's Quarters has all been built on top of that in the last 3 months. There was no Incarna at all before it (i guess some people will breathe a sigh of relief knowing their precious spaceship resources didn't get used - the previous iteration of WiS was probably canceled back in 2009).
This means that they can't even deliver the 3d chat with the current models dosen't it ? They need proper low poly / texture game-optimized models to make an Incarna with multiplayer interaction and real content to play with.

At least they were quite honest.
No "there will be this, hm, not sure what exactly, but certainly awesome thing, bla bla". Just a silence.

The silence was probably complete embarassment. This is the result of "years" of work? They have every right to be embarassed at the ineptitude displayed.

I expected the CQ to be 10 times bigger than what they showed.. very disappointing.

"We" isn't everyone. I've been a paying player for 3+ years now and Incarna is the only thing keeping me around now.

Any veteran knows that all the juice stuff about the future will be tomorrow. Today it is mostly about the past.
Edit: I am not included in Fulbert's 'we' either.

So don't forget to contract me your stuff when you'll be bored from walking in circles in Stormwi... Jita IV-4. If future changes (especially cosmetic ones) are the only goal for you in the game, you're more likely to unsubscribe than you think. Aye. Although the fact than "years" of work were just scrapped recently is most probably true. However, started working on CQ in January only ???
Haven't you also noticed how toned-down the keynote was in general ? Not a word, not a slightest hint about any plans about improving/redoing any of the core mechanics. Except some talks about improving NPC behaviour, I'll give them that.
Other than that, small improvements - which are great, tbh, and graphics stuff, which sounded cool as well.

Now I cannot understand why CCP spend so many years to simply develop CQ.
First of all we all know WOD online is coming, so obviously they have to use technology developed in incarna on WOD online also. So they must have developed incarna features long before if they really started working on WOD online since 2009. On the other hand, current release of incarna features are mostly missing. I dunno which kind of mistake CCP made during development but it really seems like they made a major mistake which caused them to revert anything created. Otherwise, I cannot explain how so little content is coming from incarna. And worst thing is this possibly affected development of WOD.

After seeing that vid I'm rather curious as to what happened to all the stuff they showed during the 08 fanfest. I mean they had a SUBSTANTIAL amount of content during that presentation. What happened to all that?!

Incarna will never be comparable to The Sims. The key feature of The Sims is managing your sims' needs and wants, such as urinating. Oh I'm sorry, is reality intruding on your fantasy world where something in your post was true? _____________________________ [Sebiestor tattoos and Intaki hair: NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER.] |

It was a proof of concept of what they wanted to do that was hacked together and tacked onto a client for the demo. Also there is no saying that at least some of it isn't still around in some form, but it may be that they have to get the incarna engine framework in place and working before they bring that in.

yeah, i caught that too, but it still leads me to wonder what has become of the bulk of work on incarna. Is it mostly finished? Have they thrown everything out that we've seen previously and just completely started over? _____________________ Look down. Back up. Where are you? CQ is totally useless feature.
Whole EVE is all about the tiny little ships that we move with mouse.
Back to basics CCP, we need new stuff to space, not to stations. New ships, new content to space. Incarna is a flop.
Except the Gallentean pleasure hubs wich are still not updated after Trinity.

The reason you fail to understand is because you seem to have some rather vital facts either wrong, or totally missing. First of all the version of Incarna displayed at fanfest '08 was a work in progress at best, and most likely just a concept. Secondly the technology for Incarna was developed FROM the stuff for World of Darkness and not the other way around.
Carbon was built for WoD, its implementation into EVE came about because it was clear that this new system was far superior to the one they had tested in '08. This is why development of Captains Quarters did not begin until January of this year. As for the development work already done on the Incarna project, there has been no clear indication from CCP that all of this has been shelved, I would venture that the key elements of it have in fact been set aside ready to be re-authored using the new CARBON framework.
Lastly we have absolutely no idea what, if any impact there was on the development of World of Darkness. Personally I don't think there has been any impact at all on it, nor on that of DUST514. People really do need to do a few things here. Calm down, take a deep breath and check what are facts and what is pure speculation before jumping to eroneous conclusions.
EDIT: Spelling errors.

well, most of us started playing this to pew pew in spaceships. if the core mechanics of gameplay and combat are incomplete or broken, what's the point of creating deeper immersion? fix the foundation of the game first before adding new stuff.
