It is similar to a Tech 2 cruiser in stats and bonuses, but instead of having the normal slots, each slot is a 'double' slot. What it mean is you could fit 2 fittings to your ship and switch between the fittings without docking. It would take 30-60 seconds to switch fittings, during which time your ship would be vulnerable as there would be no active fitting in that time. |

You can also switch each slot individually in the fittings window, each one taking 30 seconds to switch and being unavailable during that time. |

Buy a tech 3 cruiser and you'll be fine.
But what your suggesting would lead to me running around the north in a full plexing fit for making money, then suddenly swapping and mercing people who scan me down in a SS. |

I'd warp to a safespot, and ten switch fittings. I had a similar idea, but in order that not to be massively overpowered, those ships would have to be comparatively weak to compensate for that ability.
Also, you'd have to find an use for such a ship, which would be weaker than usual tech 2 cruiser. If you cant find any, its not needed at all.

Actually this would be an amusing way for tech 3 modules to work. Hit the morphin button and it would do something different, your pulse lasers become beams, your adaptave plate becomes a hardner, your cap recharger becomes a cap injector, nos becomes a nuet, so on and so forth, until some finds the right combo and ruins all the fun. |

Soooo are you asking to have an ability to turn on full stabbed and tanked travel fit .. then change it into the combat/whatever fit when you reach your destination ?
Would be "Nice" but would allso make the game way worse for anyone rolling in lowsec or null. So all in all no. |

Why is it that people seem to think that ships are not meant to blow up?
Having a multitude of specialized ships makes it a lot more interesting than one ship that can do everything. When a ship is introduced, I don't want it to be better, I want it to be different. A new approach to a specific area or an additional layer to change things up a bit. Example: As I said in a different thread, an off-grid mortar AOE BC would be something to consider as a possible addition. |

The only way this would be imaginable, is MAYBE a very specialized exploration ship, with no combat capabilities. Modules such as salvagers, probe launchers and the such, would need to be static, since they are turrets, and in any kind of real life practice, would require massive mechanical changes, but as far as the swapping of modules such as code breakers, analyzers, sensor boosters..... maybe. But honestly, a ship like that would be pointless as you can make most any ship in eve into a multi purpose exploration ship, and since there is already a ship (covert ops) with scanning bonuses, its doubful they would do this, unless there was a plan to remap the boneses of the covert ops ship........ see? a new ship like that just gets into all types of balancing and usability issues. CCP would never go for it. just get a T3 and dock to swap out. |

actually sometimes I fit more modules than my cpu/grid can handle and deactivate some while using the others, probe launchers in wormholes come to mind - don't enter 1 without it :). |

It was exploration that gave me the idea. I was looking at some fits and messing with the mid slots and thought it was annoying that I would have to dock up to switch a codebreaker and and analyser. That's when I thought a ship that could switch modules would be interesting and started thinking about other applications it might have, like being able to switch between short range and long range weapons or being able to switch between PvE and PvP fits. Maybe it could be used for mission running to switch between different hardeners on your way to the mission site and it could add a new layer of strategy to both solo PvP and fleet PvP. |

Options:
Fly a ship with enough midslots to fit a codebreaker and analyzer.
Get an orca alt/friend.
Short and long-range weapons: Tracking computer/T2 ammo
PvE and PvP fits: Basically, no. Although there are some fits that can do both roles reasonably when necessary, especially in fleets.
Adding new layer of strategy: in fleet PvP: no, its about numbers and people shooting the right target. In small gang PvP: no, it's all about intel. In solo PvP: there are many solo PvP ships that can already kill belt rats just fine, and if you are good at solo PvP you won't need PvE ships, you'll have plenty of isk/materials from other players. |
