I looked around and can't see anything... I'm just curious. What kind of margin does a supercap have? I'm thinking of building one. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Margins are actually pretty good on supercaps. Even after factoring in the cost for sov and a deathstar POS.
However the cost to gain and hold sov is too much for smaller alliances unless you are NAPed to half of 0.0.

I did the math the other day in Science forum, with much egg on my face with the results.

Edited by: Brock Nelson on 28/03/2011 03:12:18 Honestly, if you had to ask about the simplest thing about the game (finding out how much something cost) vs how much it sells for; then perhaps building a supercap is something you might want to hold off doing.

Nonesense, he will obviously just join the NC and be doing it in the next month.

...actually I would consider it. It would depend on the terms of my system residency. Financially I could easily afford an operation like that. I just don't know what the hell I'm doing. It's fun.

Edited by: Elise DarkStar on 29/03/2011 02:15:02 You can't just "join the NC" and start building private supercaps.
Your best bet for a solo op would be to join shadow of xxdeathxx, which is a renter alliance. You could arrange to rent a few moons in an upgraded station (refinery) system in the ass-end of nowhere for peanuts. That is probably the most stable space in the game because nobody wants it, and I bet you could run a tower there for ten years without ever having it threatened.
You would need a jump freighter and around 4 cyno alts. I personally would build a freighter out there as well for moving minerals between the station and your tower(s), but if you don't mind the added tedium, then that's up to you.

Build cost of Super Carriers is 11-13 billion sale is 14-16 billion so profits per ship are average about 3 billion currently. Now this assumes that you OWN all the Capital Component and Ship BPO's or if you have to buy a BPC's it will cut about 1-2 bil out of your profit. Also the fact if you have to pay rent for space or not could cut up too another 1 bil out of your profits pretty much making you break even. Lets also not forget the 3 weeks it would take you to build the components and another 3 it takes you to build the ship. O'yah i almost forget the week or two it will take you to buy the minerals in jita compress them and move them to your 0.0 building location. So good luck with building one.. but if you don't want to go through the trouble to save less then 1 bill isk then just buy one from me! Send me a mail if you want a Super Capital! .
