I had outfitted my Dominix and started on my first level 4 mission. I was about 1/3 through with the first room when all of a sudden a red flashy player shows up in my overview. I realized it was a ninja looter. So I locked on him and opened fire thinking he would run away. Well as the first couple of shots landed a friend of his shows up and they end up popping my ship with the help of all the NPC's I had shooting at me.
One good thing was this ship was insured and I already had about 100 mil in the bank. So I waited until the aggro timer flicked off and bought myself a new Megathron. It's now outfitted and cap stable.
What I learned is:
1) My ship is more valuable than what they were looting. 2) Ninja Looters most likely have friends to help pop people that defend their wrecks. 3) If you do want to fight, warp out and lose NPC aggro then come back in WITH FRIENDS. 4) Fit a tractor and loot the wrecks as you do the mission that way ninja looters only ever get salvage and not your loot.

After the initial ship POP I was quite upset. No I did not emo-rage in chat. I did say "Thanks Guys", because I now had a reason to buy that Megathron I had been eying. But yeah, Not really mad because I had screwed up not them, and I had already gotten my ISK's worth out of that Dominix.

Oh, for the love of squiggly triangles... learn the agro mechanics.
1: If he's flashing red, YOU can shoot HIM.
2: Just because he's flashy red to YOU doesn't mean that YOU are to HIM.
3: You turn flashy red to anyone you "OFFEND" -- shoot, eWAR, tackle, steal, or rep the enemy of.
When a ninja warps in and steals some of your loot, he turns flashy red. Your safest course of action is to just ignore him. (Alternately, you can warp out and hope the NPCs get him, or come back in a PvP fit ship.)
If you're doing serious missioning, you'll want to either move away from mission hubs where ninjas gather, learn to avoid them, or train for a Marauder and loot while you go.

Yeah I knew I was safe from him until I shot at him. I made the mistake thinking he was alone and in a salvage fit ship, not combat salvage fit.

I can't for the life of me understand how these keep showing up. Whenever a carebear has well known mechanics used against them, they always come to the forums and post about it. Why, for the love of god, do none of them come before and see the bountiful posts about how to aviod these situations. More than that, why do they always come AFTER the bad stuff has happened, like they are the first people it has happened to.

because the forums are an outlet for new players to ask questions about events in the game that happen to them. Some ore proactive, but most don't know enough about the game mechanics yet.
Or maybe people like to share their experiences.

Don't fire at him, if you want him to go away ignore him, or blow up the wrecks available. Warping off is also a good option, the mobs in the pocket may kill him.
Salvage is about worthless, he just wants you to shoot him in the hope you have nice stuff on you/lols/tears.

Frankly, when i used to ninja salvage when i was bored, if someone started shooting wrecks, I got their probing id and stalked them. Since shooting wrecks is a sign of frustration and I would hope that soon he would break and shoot me instead.
The best course of avoiding ninja salvagers is turning the wrecks blue.
This might sound a bit stupid but worstcase the ninja salvager is a noob and you helped a noob out or you just showed a griefer that you dont really care for salvage or loot so he loses interest.

Edited by: Roq Godslayer on 28/03/2011 17:41:22 Have you given much thought that they were there to just gank you? If you are running a level 4 mission in low-sec space, more than likely they were after your ship fit than the crap loot missions drop. Flashy red means pirate activity. Flashy red pirate in small ship equals a tackler. Flash red friends means hope you are insured.
Level 4 mission runners typically have t2 loot, and sometimes t2 or t3 ships with themselves produce t2 salvage. In some cases the intended target is faction fitted. A big score for pirates.
Always align out to a safe spot. Don't dock, unless you want to be camped in. Alternatively, fit a cloak. Keep an eye on your scanner - ALWAYS.

When i gank people doing missions in lowsec, i dont warp to the ship bm alone and wait for them to shoot to call my friends. more likely I would just warp in a neut ship and start shooting before he starts to shoot at me. So I say its pretty safe to assume this happened in high sec.

They keep showing up because new players do not go to the forums to learn how to play the game. They normally come here after playing a while and either they do something or have something done to them. They come here to ask a question or to post something they learned that might help someone else in the game from making the same mistake. Also if you even bother to try and read some of the older posts anything after the first post is pretty much trolling or name calling, or anything but helpful.
That is why most people don't come here first, and it's why I posted a brand new thread about MY experience. By making my post I hope I can keep someone else from losing a ship they really need not lose.
No I did not think I was the first it happened to, but it was my first time having it happen to me. While I know EVE does not revolve around me or my play style (like others think about themselves) I figured that someone may benefit from my experience.

Edited by: Deviana Sevidon on 28/03/2011 20:00:03 Just pop the wrecks before the ninja looters can grab the content. That way you can sit and laugh at them while they become increasingly frustrated in their attempts to have you aggro one of them. The end result are blue balls for the ninja looters and maybe a little smack in local incoming, while you have a laugh.

Why doesn't this kind of things happen to me? People don't ninja salvage or loot my missions (I hardly ever salvage or loot myself anyway), don't gank me in lowsec, flipped my cans or suicide gank my Tengu or hauler with a few 100 million worth of stuff in it ...

Don't bother to shoot the wrecks, often a ninja looter will just warp out and come back when you are in the next room or turning in the mission, steal all the large wrecks you stopped shooting and laugh at the fact you probably didn't even notice, not to mention you became mad enough to rob yourself.
Honestly I've gotten rid of far more ninja looters by turning all my wrecks blue then any other tactic. Because most of the time they are there to make me upset blue means I don't care and honestly I don't. I salvage and loot because I don't like to waste, not because I need that stuff. Stuff is a burden it has to be sold, the ISK/LP for the next mission is far more valuable then the loot and salvage in my current mission. Meanwhile 7 out of 10 times after turning the room blue, I still go back and find loot cans from the large ships and wrecks for the small ships still floating in space.
At the end of the day remember ninja looters just the remora of Eve.

Because a new player NEEDS that "worthless" loot, every isk counts, he may be able to run missions, but his skills are poor, so it takes ages and ages to complete missions, in which case, the salvage is worth more isk/hour, then the mission ..Can you remember back when you had a few hundred thousand SP, and had just bought your first shiny BC with almost all your isk? I don't believe in signatures, not even really cool ones like "This signature intentionaly left blank" |

This is so ridiculously far from the truth. If the player isn't doing level 4's yet, he can bet there won't be any meta 4 loot worth a damn. And if he is doing level 4's, the salvage + bounty should be plenty of isk.
If he's competent, he won't lose his ship and have a big replacement bill. All he'll need isk for is replacing ammo. If he's incompetent, well.. then he'll probably shoot at looters.
Originally by: Yxalitis ..Can you remember back when you had a few hundred thousand SP, and had just bought your first shiny BC with almost all your isk?
I wasn't that stupid. I flew frigates and the occassional cruiser. My first BC was a Drake when I had a couple million SP and I did lvl 4's with it when they were still hard. Remember Guristas Extravaganza when all the rats would spawn all at once instead of wave after wave? Yeah, good times solo tanking that. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

It's simple, people don't come here looking for this BECAUSE: 1- THE LIFE-LONG TUTORIAL DOESN'T FOR **** EVEN MARGINALLY MENTION THIS 2- EVE'S PVP IS COUNTER INTUITIVE, DISGUSTING TRASH FIT FOR COWARD RUBBISH PLAYERS 3- EVE IS A FAILURE AS A MODERN GAME. In a well developed modern game, you shouldn't need a forum to know how to pvp.
