Has anyone read this? I came across it and it seems, interesting. Some say its among the greatest philosophical books written in the last century, and a guidebook was even written for it.
Any thought on this?

How is motorcycle repair an art? There's only 1 way to repair it right and if you do it your own way odds are it's going to fail and you get to be an organ donor if there's any usable meat left

I for one would love to be able to walk on stations and fly spaceships in the body of a little cute catgirl!

It's been a very long time since I read it. I wouldn't mind reading it again some day.
I do remember preferring the second book Pirsig wrote, 'Lila - an inquiry into morals.' 'Lila' had more philosophical substance - that I could digest, anyway. I would definitely recommend it. Has some interesting ideas, that I still remember very distinctly and still consider helpful ways of view the world, from a philosophical point of view.

It is definitely worth reading, though I found that I had to be wide awake to read it - not really "5 pages before lights out" material.
And if you need any more convincing: The book sold 5 million copies worldwide. It was originally rejected by 121 publishers.

Edited by: Signal11th on 31/03/2011 11:10:04 Seems like a bad rip off of the 1988 Zinn and the art of mountainbike repair.

Which would make it more special having been published 14 years before the Mountainbike one...

It is a fascinating book and so is the sequal. The questions that are posed are complex and timeless. Definitely not a book for everyone, but a true philosophical masterpiece (and so is the sequel). Bring it on long journeys, not a 'lights out' book.
