One complaint I have with this game is the clutter that results from multiple chat boxes and expanded overview. Doesn't help my monitor is a mere 19". So I'm thinking of upgrading to a new monitor setup.
From your experience, what monitor setup allows for the most enjoyable gameplay on one client? For example would getting one large monitor (say a 23") or would having the client span two smaller monitors (say two 19") allow for a more enjoyable experience?

I suggest getting one large screen (that has 1080p or better resolution). Eve does not span well over multiple monitors...

IMO get at least a 23" wide screen monitor and keep the 19" for dual view. You will remember me.

I literally just ordered a 27" 16:9 for EVE, going from a 20" 16:10. Considered dual monitors but I figured other monitors are useful for alts and that if you're mainly on the one account, like me, a big screen would be much better.

3x27" ips panels sounds like a perfect setup for eve. Lots of space, good quality. Use some with LED-Backlite so energy saving. 3x30" is to big for my view distance and view field.
On a surprising note: Even a setup like 24" and 19" works surprising good, more important than size differences become differences in pixel density. Still same size. same resolution and small borders make a even better multi monitor experience.
Even when this setup is to expensive for your taste, eve in windows is even charming on a dual monitor setup, so 2x19" is better than one 24", though imho the minimum should be 2x24", better 3x24. Again LED-Backlite, energy savings make up for any higher costs.

Edited by: Gaeid Modiso on 01/04/2011 08:29:32 I just got my new Dell U2711 today, and eve is gorgeous in it. I run it in windowed mode so I'm just a shade under 2560 x 1440 resolution. One word of warning though, the EVE client font is hard to read at that resolution, and you can only make the right click context menu font and the chat window font bigger. I now have a ton of screen real estate for all kinds of windows, and still have plenty of space left for the view.
Also, I found that even with my GTX 580 trying to run 2 clients while using 16xQ AA is a no-no, but it works fine at 8x AA. =============================== Wit has truth in it; wisecracking is simply calisthenics with words. Dorothy Parker |

It spans wonderfully over two screens! I have two 1920x1200 24" Dell 2408's and EVE goes over both of them nicely. I want to get a third 24" when I get an upgrade to my GTX285 later this year.
Originally by: Logan LaMort I literally just ordered a 27" 16:9 for EVE, going from a 20" 16:10. Considered dual monitors but I figured other monitors are useful for alts and that if you're mainly on the one account, like me, a big screen would be much better.
Two screens are perfect for one account when you PVP. Two 24's give you more real estate to play with than one 27' and also can be depending on the models a cheaper alternative. Not that a 27 isn't awesome itself :). Two large screens also gives really greater situational awareness.
I have one screen on the left which is: HUD and main view centred. Neocom Local chat. Fleet broadcast Locked Targets Autopilot route. drone bay/control
The right screen is: Fleet chat. Logi channel chat. Combined chat for intel, alliance, corp and other channels I need to be in. Watch list. Cargo hold. Dscan Last but not least overview which can take up much more space on a second screen so I can see all the values on it I want.
While in station, I have the hamger and items in the right window.
Personally I'd like to be able to split the overview instead of just tabs so when flying logistics I could see freindly logistics, enemy ships, and freindly ships without having to tab between them.
I can post a screenshot when I get home but its f*cking awesome for want of a better word. The ability to spread over two screens is the single best thing in EVE in the last 3 years. It makes up for my poor piloting anyway and certainly a bonus if you fly anything other than a DPS ship in PVP.

Simple answer is get the biggest wide-screen monitor you can afford, and that your graphics card is capable of driving at a decent frame rate.
I use a dell 24" screen @ 1920*1200 for eve, and then have a secondary screen which is just a little 17" tft @ 1280*1024 for web pages, videos etc while I'm playing.

With resolutions that high imo AA comes with less and less benefit for more and more performance impact.

Large ones are good... and then you can use your existing one as a 2nd monitor.
I've been using dual monitors for the last 15years ? [maybe longer -> mono + vga ] though I have 3 on my desk now]
but basically get a widescreen biggest resolution you can afford 1920x1200 is well good --

You'll see almost no difference after X2 FSAA on that resolution. It might benefit much older games with low texture resolutions on models but the graphics client in EVE was refreshed recently enough.

Edited by: Ordais on 01/04/2011 11:10:13 Its not about the size of the monitor, its about the resolution. 30" at 1080p is the SAME as 22" 1080p, so don't be fooled. The guy above me actually made a STEP BACK...
It really depends on your graficscard, if you are going for fullHD+ resolutions be prepared to buy highend GCs if you want to run your games at full details. If you are rather a midrange hardware guy, stick with midrange resolutions.
Best bang for the buck are 24" monitors these days. I still prefer multimonitor setups, just because it gives you MORE space (eve 2x 19" = 2560x1024) and it benefits you in your day-to-day work on the computer, like a bigger desk.

I was considering two 24" screens for a long time, but I also play a lot of FPS games and my consoles are hooked up too, so that was a pretty big factor in the decision.
To be honest though I can see myself buying another one

To those of you saying EVE doesn't work well with two monitors, it works fine now since they added the ability to move the camera focus left or right. So now you can have your spaceship in one monitor, and miscellaneous other windows in the other. -----WARNING SIGNATURE BELOW-----

Eve spans multiple monitors just fine nowadays. Get a card that can, by itself, connect to two monitors, and you'll have no problem. Mine is even an old one (GeForce 9600 GT IIRC) and I span 2 24" with no problems. Looks great, and I can't go back now. |

How the heck do I get the HUD to move? When i span over my two monitors I can move the ship focus just fine, but the HUD is in the middle, between the two screens, split in half :\

I have two screens, each 1920x1200 rather than spanned within windows. EVE is dragged across in fixed window mode.
It works perfectly with almost no tweaking other than moving the HUD and then pinning what you want where you want. I just did a roam in a logi and having all that space is perfect for having all the right windows open at big sizes so you can see all you need. EVE is so much more awesome that way. I can't advocate getting two screens enough.
I'm seriously tempted to get one of the new ATI cards that can do three screens but for now my GTX285 is more than enough to power 3830x1200. In massive fleets i.e. 300+ I do have to turn FSAA off though and reduce a few settings. Anything up to that and it still works pretty well.
All I want now is a way to get TS3 to be able to fit into an EVE window within the client. But that might be to much to ask.

I've also got two monitors, and I can move everything around to where I want it but I CANNOT get the ship to appear in the center of one monitor. No matter which settings I change it is always centered between the two monitors.
Anybody know the right setting or settings?

A single screen, even as large as 2560x1600 two 24's gives me more pixels.
1680x1050x2= 3,528,000 Pixel 1920x1080x2= 4,147,200 Pixel 2560x1600= 4,096,000 Pixel
So you get 51,200 more pixel, IF those 24" are FULL-HD, if they are 16:10 in the usual resolution you get even 568,000 less pixel. Further more in any case pixel denstiny should be in both cases higher on the 30" , which as well mean that you get with two 24" a bigger picture with lower resolution.
