I noticed something unrealistic about EVE's physics (not the firction, since you guys already have an explanation for that) Whenever a ship stops mivn,g it aligns itself to a horizontal plane, facing straight forward. Not only is this unrealistic, but think about it, every minute, there are at least 100 ships that are stopping and then begin aligning to face forward.
If you guys remove the Auto-Aligning after a ship stops moving, not only would it make the game more realistic, but it would also reduce load on the server slightly. It wouldn't be that hard to implement.
Another Tip: As it turns out, Graphics Cards also handle physics, so maybe you could install a graphics card or two on one of the servers and test to see if there are any performance improvements. Having trouble debating? Just go with the side that pays you more for your work. |

Also, since EVE's physics are based on Water Physics, just without Gravity and Bouyancy, why don't you guys create a Submarine Game? All you have to do is copy the physics and then add gravity and bouyancy, then get working on some content and beta testing, and you're done. Having trouble debating? The whole "ship levels out" thing is client side. All ship transforms (rotation etc) is handled by the client, based off their speed, heading etc. So when a ship is not moving, it will level out. and EVE physics are not really physics. There are no aspects of EVE that would require a physics engine like PhysX etc, everything is based off headings and the basic structure of the engine.

So? The reason they level out is becasue there is a bit of physics that hasn't been disabled when EVE was made. They removed Gravity and Bouyancy from the Water Physics that the game's Space Physcis were based off of, but they forgot to remove the leveling. Having trouble debating? A massive ocean planet, submarine MMO sounds appealing. Nice idea.
