Edited by: Martin Jonji on 05/04/2011 21:07:11 Hi,
I've just installed eve(again), on my relatively new laptop, but I'm having some issues with graphics..
First of all I get weird artifacts, white lines/flashes and poor resolutions on stations and ships even with everything on high. For comparison, I can run Battlefield bad company 2 with almost everything on high, or at least pretty high.
I have an Acer aspire timelineX with Radeon HD 5650.
It may be I just missed something really stupid, but I think this is really weird. Any help would be appreciated.

EVE is one of the few games to demand blood be spilled directly onto the CPU in order to perform at its best.

Edited by: Martin Jonji on 05/04/2011 21:18:02 I can kinda get that with the artifacts, but that doesn't really explain the graphics on ships etc..
With the artifacts I mean.
Do you really think my cpu is so crappy that it affects graphics? I think that sounds a bit weird.

Seriously, it sounds like your Graphics card is overheating, which is an inherent flaw with laptops, even new ones.

this sounds like a possibility
but also, theres a likelihood Catalyst A.I is messing things up. disable it in the Catalyst control centre.

You need to set the graphics in your ingame menu. While in game, hit "Esc", then go to the graphics section. Turn everything up and your graphics will improve. Also, you guys wanna get high?

Edited by: Martin Jonji on 05/04/2011 21:26:31 Drivers I can get, I'll try to find some updated ones. I can't just install new original ones from ati, because then I lose the ability to switch graphic card. Holy mess.
Anyways, I don't think it's overheating either, because then it would have happened after some time, it doesn't get overheated after like 5 seconds.
As I said, everything is set to high in the menu.

In extreme cases something like this might help.
But your average laptop just needs to be on a hard table or something instead of a cushioned surface like a bed or couch, which i'm pretty sure they advise against in the manual for those things.

Don't be silly! There's a reason they're called Laptops! Oh wait they're not any more, because Maccy Dee's Coffee Spillers couldn't figure this one out so they had to rename them to Notebooks.

Installing new drivers will prevent you from switching video cards... in a laptop?
There are so many things wrong with that statement that I don't even know where to begin. After this odd comment, I bet that drivers are indeed your issue.

I have exactly the same problem with my ATI-card. The game was running perfectly before (with the same card) and then one day when logging in this happened. I have tried new drivers, made a petition (thought the problem started with one of the updates) but nothing have helped so far. Can't think of anything else than the card being broken but the fact that someone else has the exact same problem makes me think again...

Here is a fix for you guys with these problems: Turn shader quality to low until AMD fixes the drivers, this should remove the artifacts and flashes.

Edited by: Ay Liz on 06/04/2011 11:07:34 Go into your Catalyst Control Center and find the 3D-Settings.
Just set Catalyst A.I. Texturefiletering and Mipmap-Detail there to the highest Quality-Setting possible.
I noticed this too.. You won't notice the lower settings in most other games but those have a devastating effect on EVE Graphics. Almost couldn't believe how bad EVE looked with performance settings.

1998 called, they want their information on notebook design back!
But yeah, low quality shaders should solve the problem.
