my evemon training plan has me set up to be an ace caldari pilot, but i ran out of shield and missile skills to train. so i'm looking to the far future and wondering, sanshas or guristas?
my understanding of the sanshas ships is that they are shield tanking laser users that put out huge amounts of damage. i like shields, and lasers are also shiny.
my understanding of guristas ships is that they shield tank and basicly wait for the drones to do all the work. i've seen my buddy in his rattlesnake hit all the triggers in a c3 wh anomoly and tank six frigate, four cruisers and two battleships. another bonus would be i could keep my missiles.
can i get a discussion here?

The Rattlesnake is indeed a hero passive tanker, but it does it's DPS through drones.
The Nightmare has decent active tanking capabilities - 7 mids and a massive capacitor count for a lot - but most people use a "DPS tank", which is a short way of saying that it slaughters rats so fast that they dont have a chance to do much, if any, damage. The massive alpha and brutal DPS of a Tachyon-fitted Nightmare is an awesome experience.

can have a few caveats with caldari/gurista ships. Bigger ships only give range bonus, no damage, for missiles. Don't really care about the range whatever highs you want lol.
Looking at other fittings (namely rokh since its a ship I spent mad time training and rots now since out of blob warfare and don't bash pos')...this not so off the wall. Have seen projectile and laser rokhs for example. Not seeing why rattler not doable not missile based. LAsers will eat up your cap, jsut keep a reserve for the shield recharge as best you can.
Tracking will suck as well....but in rattler fast movers are what drones are for anyway lol (not like cruise hits any better unless you kill the uber tank with tps in the mids or rigors in the rigs).

I'd recommend the Amarr route, as that is also the road to the best capitals.

Yeah, The nightmare is the best ship in Eve when it comes to nuking rats. At high skill levels it can hit frigs most of the time, and it erases anything smaller than a BS in 1-2 volleys. The DPS is so ridiculous that you won't want to group your guns, or else you'll waste laser cycles overkilling everything.

guristas ships for pvp are right out, but how about sanshas? assuming i have infinite isk (lol) are they worth having in pvp as opposed to, say, an abbadon?

Edited by: Loki Caulfield on 21/04/2011 18:44:57 I'd recommend going gurista simply because it would take far less time for you to fly the ship. Depending on what sp you have into gunnery lasers might take a long time to be efficient with them. Personally I fly the nightmare and love it. The feeling of insta popping cruisers and bc is a god like experience everyone should have.

Tracking is only an issue for those who don't know how to use turrets.

I vote neither. I've got a nightmare that underwhelms the hell out of me atm. It's really a paladin with a premadona attitude that shovels cap boosters into it's fat mouth like an obese gal at the buffet. The rattlesnake is a neat afk ship, but i've never found a practical regular use for it. I suppose you could tank some complexes or L5's, but you can do with with any ship assuming you have an alt handy (and if you're soloing 5's in a rattler expect to get dropped on regularly).
Call me a purist, but I think cross training for over-hyped faction ships is silly. Even a "I use this once a month for ship hauling," carrier is more useful than a nm/rattler.

Just LOL. Rattlesnakes have no turret hard points. And it's not about the missiles, it's about the drones: make sure you have a sentry damage rig on the ship.
That having been said, with a decent set-up that's not overtanking, put on several BCS to increase your missile damage, and don't forget the omni tracking links. And your choice of either a web to get more effective DPS on close-range targets, or a TP for those further away. á How many humans will CONCORD allow Master Kuvakei and his True Slaves to abduct? How many is too many? Too many have already been lost! 40M citizens on countless planets! |
