Ok, after installing this latest patch i thought i'd give the new character editor button a go. When i clicked on it it told me that i didn't have Pixel Shader 3 on my graphics card (as i already knew) and that features such as scars were not avaliable to me. I thought this would be annoying but i continued on.
When i got into the creator my guys facial hair litterally looked like moss and the face was torn apart with different colours of skin. My guy looks like a Zombie with gangreen on his cheek and i can't change this in the creator. I haven't gone onto the portrait bit since i couldn't even see my guy as i edited him

i too have had lots of issues with it.
mine is that i cannot change my character's clothes or give them tattoos/scars/piercings. i have let my client try to put sunglasses on my character for two hours and thirty minutes today. something which i do within a second in real life seems to take the most advanced technology in character design all day to do.
the character countinues to behave in a "lifelike" manner, looking about the screen, blinking, and breatheing, and the screen does not freeze up. the frames/second rate flickers between 20 and 19, but the cpu does not seem to be going any faster. ccp, i am convinced that the problem is not my computer, but your lousy program.
firstly, i hope that you come up with a solution to the problem soon. secondly, how would we go about preventing unfinished products from being distributed in the first place? i for one would enjoy one expansion a year if only that one were finished! the fact that i am currently posting in a forum that was archived and read only just a day ago adds emphasis to my point.
i don't believe that you are incompetent. you've made one of, if not the, best video games i've ever played. but i find it hard to sympathize with this kind of blunder.
ccp guys, sorry if i was offensive in this post, but i just had to say what i think most of us are thinking. we're disappointed.
please solve the problem as soon as possible.

On my second account I can't get the character generator to work at all. THe model appears, but if I click on the random button, or select something like hair, it will just sit there forever with the spinny icon.
The "random" button will stop swirling, to presumably it has done with the chosing, but it won't render any of those choices. I've dropped it to the lowest quality and still get this problem. |

my problem exactly. trying to apply glasses or any clothes results in the perpetual spinny lines implying work is being done. but it never gets done.
it's only your second account for you? for me its both.

I can get through the character creator on low settings but when it goes to portrait mode it just goes to a black screen with a spinner. It also loads one cpu at 100%.
I downloaded the program that checks to see if you can run the required shader and it says that I can.
Running a Nvidia 7100.
As I have a card that runs the shader I can only conclude that the code in the character creator was written by winged monkeys in an attempt to save costs.

Edited by: Red Ceres on 10/04/2011 22:34:51 I have the same problem as Jaik7 has. I can change some of the physical features of the character but not the Clothes / Tattoos / Piercing / Scars. Even though I can see physical changes in real time, I too have the spinner that stays on for ever. And I cant go forward to finalise the process.
I too tried different graphics setting and I only achieved to freeze the EVE client.
Hope the character creator works better soon!

Same problems as above, can't change anything, infinite loading and changing graphic setting around causes eve to crash.

Those of you who just see the wheel spinning, it would help us to figure out what is the issue if you could start the log server, then start the client and go into the character creation and do your thing, and then submit a bug report with the logs attached
Thanks

edit: how long should i let the spinny lines spin? would five minutes be enough, or is more time needed?

Thanks, it would be great if you could do that
I'm not sure how long it can be spinning when everything is OK... but I'm pretty sure there is something wrong if it has been spinning for 5 minutes. You should be able to put the glasses on very quickly (0 to a few seconds). When you are running the log server, look out for red lines... if you get some of them when you put the glasses on and then the cycle just keep spinning for a while and never recovers, that should be enough.

Thanks for the report. I took a quick look, is this only you logging in and trying to put on glasses?
Also, have you tried to lower your character creator graphic settings and see if you have the same problem (sorry if I missed where you said you did). And if that doesn't work, could you try to go in the ESC menu > Display & Graphic and tick on/off "resource cache enabled" and see if changing that helps at all.

i did go through my mail since i hate the blinky, but yeah, i logged in and tried to use the in station character modifier and i waited about a minute and i logged off.
once before i tried to put on glasses with the physically simulated hair and clothes off, but i have not done so with the full range of graphic settings yet. i'll do another logserver thingy where i try that tommorow.
thanks for keeping up with the thread.

i did as was suggested and turned off all the graphics. it looked like crap, but i could apply new stuff. then i went back in and took a portrait with normal graphics and the changes stayed.
however, when i tried to update the bug report with the new log, it gave me an error code 500 twice. so i just left it at the text only explanation. i saved the log, and i still have it, i will try uploading it again later tonight
