Not too long ago, I happily came across the following thread:
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1119841
Which tells pilots how to make their ships immune to probes. (the person probing can't get 100% lock on you to warp.)
What I'd like to know is if doing the OPPOSITE (enormous sig radius, normal low sensor strength) will make your ship appear on wider probe scans.
Basically, if someone has their probes set far apart with large scan radii, and I have one "unprobable" ship sitting right next to a ship with an enormous sig radius and low sensor strength, would the prober pick up the large ship and not the unprobable ship?
(I'm thinking a paladin with 12ss/4500sig as the "target" ship.)
If anyone knows, please share. I'd be interested in setting up some decoys to draw peoples' attention :) |

Upon asking more in-game, I've heard that having a large sig radius (without a high sensor strength) does indeed make you show up on wider probe scans.

Shield extenders, shield rigs, inertia stabs, and an active mwd... and I guess you could have your gank squad target painting you if they arent cloaked..

Bear in mind, that all ships appear as results from combat probes. Being unprobeable just means that it's impossible for the prober to get a 100% warpable result

First of all, let me say that I love ideas like this. Kudos to you Jimmy.

You're absolutely correct, but with an "un-probable" ship, that sig will bounce all over the place, so it shouldn't appear that the two (Paladin and Loki for example) are in the same spot.

The prober will know there is -something- there with the ship you've blown up to the size of the moon, and by simply using dscan(which they will have used most of the time anyway) know exactly what is there with you.

Also consider that a significant number of probers are in cov ops cloaked ships. So your bang gang needs to be aligned 15 au away.

Edited by: Lucia Vilbrun on 11/04/2011 08:08:47 By any chance, would anyone happen to know the Sensor Strength / Sig Radius ratio needed to be impossible to pinpoint in the best possible circumstances? Best probing ship, highest skills, best probes, etc.
Edit: I'm stupid, it's in the thread the OP linked. Sorry!

You can be cap stable with a 1MN t1 mwd (same sig bloom, negligible cap use on a BS)

Should have better sig/ss ratio. Park it to recon 3/3 in ninja infested hub and have some fun.

Or 2km off gate the next system over whilst the 'bait' ship is 1-2AU of a gate etc. It will be more enticing to go for the bait with fewer people in local however there will be a spike when you all jump in. Maybe go 50:50.
Questions to OP:
- How do you plan on tackling the incoming gang? - How do you plan on getting your bait ship out? - Why not just use a PVP bait ship? - Probers will prob find you anyway.

Just anchor a tcu in your wormhole that's like a sweet sweet honey-pot. Some well placed bubbles and containers for decloak and some very surprised and nosy probers :P:P

It's a real pain vs explorers of all kinds, also if in good range a single dps battery will bring kill mails. Victim inside
But a gang with logistics even small can get rid of pretty easy. ________________________________________________
