It is when people stop complaining and silently leave they get worried.
Complaining is a sign of a healthy community.
Hmmm. I haven't really looked at it that way.
Makes sense. People whine and continue posting even after they've constantly threatened to leave the game... because deep down inside, they still love it.
They're just whiners, that's all.

It is true alot of us do whine. Not because we hate CCP not because we hate EVE and want to quit. On the contrary its because we actually do love CCP and EvE. However some of us don't have the tunnel vision that most have(or are complete fanbois) and can see the signs of a game and company thats going downhill.

I'm sorry, are we supposed to be comparing world issues to the matter of a video game company's development cycle?
Because, well... it seems like a bit of a stretch to me. Just a tic.

Right... the same company that finally released an update between expansions specifically to address a ton of little issues and expand a feature introduced in the latest expansion is totally going downhill!
I can't believe you people. Really?

The vets can cry all they want, but the subscriber count is going to skyrocket and that is a good thing regardless of what you do in Eve.
Is it really though? Using Incarna to try and appeal to another audience is a horrible idea. Sure new subs might explode however most of those subs will be canceled within the month once they realize that WIS is only a fluff item.

If EVE is so bad why do you guys still play? I'm not scolding people for complaining about issues, but you obviously don't care enough about the issues to actually quit, so it can't be that bad and hence your threats are meaningless.

Just like post-Trinity graphics?
How about they don't make it a fluf item? In my experience if you can get people to stick around in Eve for at least 2 months, they tend to stick around a lot longer. Giving the new, insecure player something else to do inside a station aside from spin ships is a good thing. Not only, but Incarna is a logical evolution of Eve.

Pretty bad analogy. Trinity's graphics added to enhancing the game play of spaceships. It still targeted the same player base who are interested in spaceships. What they are trying to do with Incarna is target those who are into more mainstream MMO/Games such as WoW, EQ2, Sims. Those who come to EvE from said games will find it very limiting and end up leaving. While some may stay due realizing they do actually like the game as a whole however the majority will not.
I don't disagree that Incarna is the next step as far as EvE goes. However with the growing issues that are in this game and have been for years, is it really wise to focus more resources on a project that is considered by most to be fluff? While the core of the game is going downhill.

Incarna has always been planned for EVE, it's just taken a long time to get there. And while it could be a valid point that the resources spent on it could've been diverted towards fixing the current core game, you have to consider that the incarna engine will also power another MMO as well. -- There's a place called kugutsumen.com but don't go there. It's icky. |

Not quite.
Incarna is targeted at everyone who found EVE too dark, cold, and impersonal because you're always in a spaceship from the time you enter the game to, well, until Incarna comes out. Believe it or not, there is a large subset of players who fall into this category who can, in fact, get into the game but did not simply because of the lack of the human element.
With Incarna, the new players will be introduced to the game with human avatars, a huge jump forward from the time you were deposited in space in a tiny rookie ship in the middle of god-knows-where. That connection means a lot more than you'd think, simply because of how much it increases immersion, especially for players who have difficulties equating themselves as being a ship.

Those doing the so-called 'whining' seem to do so calmly and eloquently.
Why is it that the 'anti-whiners' posts all seem to be so full of anger, sarcasm and poor English? Is it because that is the viewpoint of a moron?

i for one am looking forward to the incarna attacted noobs concordokening themselves the second they undock, emoraging when their rifters get permajammed by falcons, and spamming the market with underpriced goods made with their "free mineral" that they got while mining.
i still think that the population spike will die the instant the noobs realize that it takes more than a month to fly anything t2, and months more to be able to fit it t2. another portion will quit the first time they get scammed, and some will quit when they realize that they can't fly with a joystick.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/evethesecondgenesis/review.html
this gamespot reveiw completly misses the point of EVE. from what i can tell, the reveiwer invested a few hours into the game, didnt work with a corp, didnt hit lowsec, didnt fight for sov, didnt actually play EVE.
(direct quote from the article)"Unfortunately, many of EVE's ambitions remain unfulfilled weeks after the game's release"
the reveiwer expected to be ruling the galaxy in weeks?
the fact of the matter is that while incarna might attract a crowd of people to try eve, i'm pretty sure they'll quit when they realize how slow a pace the game goes at. i'm not sure that the crowd that plays dressup with avatars will be the same crowd that would enjoy a cutthroat universe.
To the OP, i only complain when there is software problems. for instance, the buggy character creator. i can't scar, pirce, tattoo, or even change their clothes.

The first round of incarna is a load of fail for those people, sitting in a room looking at screens. I'd say most of them will never touch EVE after they quit if drawn in by incarna and DON'T enjoy eve spaceships. What matters to CCP, is that these new people will buy GTC so they have isk to buy things, or just cough up cash ala micro transactions.
If people are coming for second life in space/dress up they are probably not going to have that at a basic level until winter, interacting in stations, more custom content to buy, etc. CC is too limited at the moment and first round of incarna is a huge let down for being social with an avatar.

But .. but I came for walking in stations and get nice clothes and pets, I just did some spaceship stuff in the meantime because it got delayed and I'd better save ISK for a new wardrobe and exclusive cats ..
Anyway, not sure if what you predict will be the case. When I started to play EVE I actually expected we'd be characters that could fly spaceships. With or without walking avatars, I did expect a spaceship game and what that's concenrned it didn't disappoint me. The extremely long training times remain the same, if you come for the spaceships or the avatar/station stuff. Actually the ability to social interact and do things in stations in the meantime may be able to keep people who had left otherwise.
