We're going to be having a brief talk and a Q&A session at 20:00 EVE on Saturday, April 16th at the following address
public-mumble.goonfleet.com
Wiki article: https://wiki.goonfleet.com/MumblePublic
If you go there, your IP address will be harvested by goons who control the mumble. Not to mention if something happens like you crash, the node crashes or anything, you are fudged.
Goons + Your RL Info = BAD!
Call me paranoid if you want, but it is for good reason. They have done it before. If CCP endorses a voice Q&A they should ensure that if anyone is hosting, it is CCP themselves.
You have been warned...
CCP's eve voice functionality is horribly crippled and uses an inferior UI for management within eve. Any respectable null sec alliance wouldn't be caught dead using eve voice for anything because if the node crashes, game crashes or anything, you are royally fudged.

It'd more likely by a DDoS attack, but it'd only be worthwhile if they could identify you as a target rather than Joe random IP who tuned in to a CSM QA. -- Did you know there's an alliance who's name you're not allowed to say, or website you're not allowed to link? |

**************** and of course it is "random people" who tune in and not pilots in EVE.... who unthinkingly might identify themselves in the course of the convo... riiight LOL...

I thought it was obvious that J. Q. R. I. P. esq. was most likely a pilot (although not necessarily). If they're dumb enough to identify themselves and happen to be on the vanishingly small not-blue list then yes there's the possibility of being targeted for an attack. Said person would have to be worth expending the resources on in the first place. Of course it's probably more worthwhile to just get a TS address for a hostile alliance and bring that sucker down instead. You are also aware that your IP can be captured by images right? So any signatures or images posted by GIA ne'er-do-wells are just as likely to harvest your IP. And they're probably already in your corp anyways reading your mails.
P.S. I know a guy who sells tinfoil in bulk. I can hook you up. -- Did you know there's an alliance who's name you're not allowed to say, or website you're not allowed to link? |

Edited by: Barakkus on 12/04/2011 20:29:18 If you're that concerned with goons doing a DoS on your internet connection just release the lease on your IP afterwards then renew it and you'll have a completely new IP.
If you're not sure how to do that just call your ISP and ask them to give you instructions how to do it or they can just do it themselves.
I still think it's ******ed to host their little chat on goon mumble servers... - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Confirming that IPs get broadcast so the intertubes actually work.
I think your tinfoil is on too tight.

I understand you're point. But if it were done through CCP channels it'd be through eve voice which is welp. So instead their using an existing voice comm infrastructure that is known to be able to handle this sort of thing and happens to be in-house for the chair and another rep and is probably used by at least a couple other reps. -- Did you know there's an alliance who's name you're not allowed to say, or website you're not allowed to link? |

Nah, all they need is some cheap ass test server to put mumble on. It's not difficult to install and they have more than enough bandwidth to host it. Would take a total of 1 hour to install, configure and test for them. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Oh crap! Our elaborate mumble plans have been exposed! They are so sinister and so elaborate that I don't know what they are or how they work. But I do know that these plans are quite evil and you all should take note!

Your IP address ends at a company building that routes the area's traffic. If they know your ip address it only means they know the area the building is located you get your net from. Your IP changes every session. They don't know who the hell you are. Only that your net comes from so and so company. IP addresses are shuffled around. You have somebody elses IP a few hours later. You are paranoid. Use peerblock because everybody is "OUT TO GET YOU!"

Most domestic broadband internet in the US gives you the same IP address each lease. Even if you release and renew from your router it's not uncommon to be given the same address. -- Did you know there's an alliance who's name you're not allowed to say, or website you're not allowed to link? |

I would offer to host the mumble server on the Jita-Hosting server I run my TS3 servers on, but I don't think it would matter, you would still get people screaming AHH!! they are going to steal my IP!!!.
doesn't really matter if you have the same IP, at best they find out what state, or providence you might live in, or at least your ISP is based in. so what.
TS3 and TS2 servers for rent, order here |
