Hello IĈm doing a Dissertation on 3D technology and require some public opinion. So if you could spare a few moments to answer a short survey will be very much appreciated. http://FreeOnlineSurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=grw8512rlp5im7c902854

*Edit: Actually it's #11, I filled out the wrong part

I haven't filled it in as it would skew your survey.
Old two-colour 3D movie was good because the movie was specifically made for 3D
New clear-glasses 3D movie sucked as it was not specifically made for 3D (and I wear glasses these days, glasses over glasses sucks). If the movie is not designed solely for 3D they generally suck compared to their 2D version.

Done
Personally 3D movies and TV leave me pretty cold - though I hardly watch any of either these days (maybe an hour or two max in 2011 so far).
I did pick up a set of the Nvidia 3D glasses and a suitable monitor recently - when the effect works (the only game I have that counts as '3D aware' is Civ 5) its awesome. Doesn't work at all for me in Eve tho

3D in it's current form doesn't work because it's still a 2d image - Your brain cannot correctly process the information, hence the eye strain you get rather quickly. Your perception of 3D is not just visual, your inner ear has a LOT to do with it, especially with moving images.
3D in entertainment won't work untill holography gets to a suitable stage of development.

Eyes focus point vs eyes convergence point. Your brain has a problems when those two don't match up. That's why images either "seem blurry" or "give you a headache" when you look at them in fake 3D, especially the "stuff popping at you" cheap gimmicks (for stuff that happens a bit farther off it's marginally ok). Replicating this kind of "matching" properly for a 3D effect with just a 2D projection surface is next to impossible, AFAIK. You need something that can simulate different focus points on the fly too. _

Edited by: Kaahles on 16/04/2011 11:46:44 Not a big fan of 3D tbh. It destroyed some movies that could have been pretty decent already. Producers go for awesome fake-3D effects and neglect story and the bit of realism (okay that word is misplaced... let's use "believability" here) left to go for "awesome" and totally ridiculous effects on the screen.
I personally favor 70mm film and the use of IMAX cameras (where it is possible) in combination with "normal" cameras. Gives a much better picture quality than all that 3D stuff. Lucky for me that's the exact setup that is planned to be used for filming The Dark Knight Rises. Hopefully some people that make the decisions if to go 3D or not with a movie will see that it's way more awesome.
On the gaming front I can't say too much about it as I haven't been able to test it out because the equipment is so darn expensive. ----------------------------- OMG THE SKY IS FALLING! Contract me all your stuff so I can save it! |

Dont get 3D, you'll start to get overwhelmingly entranced that you'll disregard reality as it's not entertaining enough.
Probably

i done teh survey
i know hardly anything about 3d, because whenever i say 'oh wow that looks cool!' i see a price tag, and then i say, 'meh, i'll watch it in 2d at home when netflix gets it'
and you should have had a field about glasses, i think that i have to either see the movie in 2d or see it in 3d fuzzy. which might be fun.
my family who have gone to 3d movies unanimously hate it. they say the director likes to bounce tenis balls off their foreheads.

'3D' isn't its more like 2.5D until I can walk around the object and see it from behind we don't have 3D tech.
