Heya guys,
We wanted to give you an update on where we currently stand with the new forums and the things we have been working on over the last week. As indicated in CCP Sreegs last blog, our investigation regarding the security issues and our process evaluation is still on-going. Next week, OccamÆs Razor will meet and work on a new testing plan based on the internal post mortem, and discuss moving forward with releasing a better, solid, new forum software for you to use. CCP Rhayger is also working on a dev blog, which will address some of the issues, concerns and questions you have expressed to us, particularly our use of the Yet Another Forum software package.
The new forums are a high priority for us, and we continue to work on improving them, and hope to provide you with more solid information regarding the next iteration of them over the coming weeks. We thank you for all of your feedback, and hope you continue to discuss the new forums with us as we move forward.

thank you for this update. communication is really all we ask. If you promise to finish something in 2 weeks, well, you don't have to finish in 2 weeks, you just have to tell us where your at in 2 weeks, or the forum trolls go crazy.
so thank for you for the transparency, it' much appreciated.

Just out of curiosity, do you still have copies (or notes) from the first and second testing round on the SiSi database? A lot of good comments and suggestions were made in those threads, and much of that feedback might be lost in the ire over the somewhat troubled roll-out the forums gotà ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Agreed. Just keep the communication going. Doesn't matter if you need months to fix it, as long as you keep us in the loop, we're a patient lot. Well, most of us.

I will be watching with interest.
I suggest you leave the blog factual and devoid of the more common "jokes" and insulting platitudes. This was a very serious breach of customer confidence and I expect it to be treated accordingly (no funny defenestration videos please.)

Another year to implement the suggestions posted in testing would be better than the same forums (with the security fix or no) released, well, ever. In fact, I wouldn't even release the new forums at all before making spacebook not suck. Even after all this time, spacebook itself is still not ready to go live. The fact that the two are tied together at all is worse than a joke.

Bravo for the communication. Looking forward to the coming dev blog.
On a side note, I want to stress again, CCP, please don't release unpolished stuff again like the failed new forum. It absolutely sucked to be a paying customer seeing their money going into producing "rubbish".

Have you reconsidered the decision to not migrate the current forum across to the new one?

I'd be interested to know whether all of the old posts will be wiped from the new forums. I put a fair amount of work into the new Shops and Services thread on the Sell forums. I wasn't able to copy them before the forums were finally taken down. It sure would be nice to have even the raw text for it. Any help/info would be appreciated. |

Thanks for the update.
Make sure it works before you close the old one this time. The old forums are lacking but have been sufficient for many years and will do just fine while you work to make the new one a worthy replacement to the old one. There is little point in replacing a working but lacking old forum with a buggy and lacking new one.

really need to ask this why doesnt CCP do what other companies do buy License to IPB or VB and then modify the software to the liking of CCP. and at the end of the day have a forum with better features and interface compared to the new one which is horrid.

Yes I would also like to see an IPB forum. I've always found them to be secure and full of features I like.

Two things.
One, what exactly is the technical difficulty stopping you from migrating the content of this forum over to the new forum ? It's not like you need multiple people with a doctorate degree in computer sciences to write something that would copy over some text records and their structure (regardless of their number, and how long it takes for the process to complete is mostly irrelevant too). So there must be some other reason. What is that reason exactly ?
Two, do you even plan to address a sizable portion the myriad issues people had (even since the first test run) with regards to readability, aspect and so on and so forth ? You know, just to know for sure whether most of that feedback was basically just a waste of time on our part or not (because on rollout day it sure looked like it was). It was basically a slap in the face for all the people that use the forums heavily and who didn't like some aspects of it.

Because they would then need to break that, to keep it in line with everything else around here. ----------------------------------------

Are you considering to have a test-phase during which the community is challenged to break the forums before you switch over to having them as the only forum with (potentially) sensitive content? Apparently people try/manage to break it even if you don't ask for it and some proved to be rather good and fast at it too...

Three, why force us to switch to the new forums by closing down the old ones completely ? You should have a transitional period in which both are open, then start limiting creation of new threads in the old one after a couple of weeks, then reduce the autolockdown duration to a couple of days, and only close them down about a month or so later, when the new forum is deemed stable and usable enough. And no, it was not stable NOR usable enough when you rolled it out last time. And it had nothing to do with the security issues either.
Honestly, if they migrate these forums to the new one then they might as well shut this one down and only allow posting on the new one. There will be no need to archive something visible on the new forums (except archiving because of herpderps).
