Alright so losing my mind here... I found a couple of capsules at the absolute center of the star of a system. When I scanned it down and warped there I got flung out (non-warp) at many millions of km/s from the star. The capsules also moved. Scanned them down again and warp to zero, they pop on grid for a second and then move once again! Is there some protection in place so that people in their pods who are offline in space cannot be scanned down and killed?

For whatever reason, I scanned it down again and warped fleet (my main) to it and this time they stayed there...

You bounce off the center of the star once you get there, instead of warping between sfespots you can simply do this if you being scanned down (needs only one BM, PITA to make it tho). Doesn't work with planets.

Yeah the bounce is definitely useful, still doesn't explain why the damned offline pods moved instantaneously as soon as they showed up my grid, then didn't go anywhere on the 4th time. Either way, that's two people (or guy and his alt?) that'll be grinding his teeth next time he logs in

Dunno, if those people were indeed offline it might be that "emergency warp" lead them to the star and they just bounced off there and warped back again few times until somehow they ended up in place that didn't bounce them off, or they were still in the middle of bouncing off when you scanned them down few times and stopped on fourth... tho, I think, people who are offline should dissapear sooner than you get a chance to scan them down 4 times in a row.
There's also a chance that they were not on the gird in the first place. At any rate, it might be a question more suted for scrapheap (guess it's failheap now), especially if it has some sort of "borderline exploit" game mechannics involved.

A couple of months ago Veto killed some guy named Darrel973 or something and his pod got lodged in the middle of the sun in Goinard. We went crazy for a couple days scanning him down only to bounce a long ways off the star (his pod never moved though).
We eventually gave up and figured it was just a bug. The weird part was that a couple days after we gave up, we killed him a few systems away while he was moon scanning yet his pod was still trapped in the middle of the sun in Goinard =/ I think it finally disappeared after a week or so. At first I was going to ask if there was anyone in the pod. If you biomass characters sometimes you can end up with their pods in the corporate hangar - so that is one way to get an empty pod.
But if there was someone listed as being it it - that sounds like a bug.
