And I say start with the small Tech 1 hulls (and any of their Tech 2 counterparts)
First of all, CCP really needs to pick which half ship design they want to use for the Atron. You can't just cut two ships in half and glue a pair of mismatched halves together and call it a spaceship. It's just wrong.
And the Slasher, my goodness, like, it's so freaking dumb how they designed this thing, I made better designs when I was a new born baby F. F. S. whoever designed this thing... man, I just find it... reprehensible. At least stick the two main parts of it together - actually together, not just connected by some bent tubes.
Things that should probably just be completely scrapped and designed anew: Tormentor, Crucifier, Bantam, Griffin, Navitas, Imicus, Probe.
I'm being conservative here. Anything that I didn't mention probably needs small tweaks as well.
Start thinking about the physical appearance of the spaceships, CCP. Your graphics are good, but the ship designs remind me of WoW.
And variety and diversity are good, I'm not trying to say make all the ships the same - far from it, actually, as I would most definitely oppose such thinking, but I am against ugly spaceships. People are ugly enough as it is, when I join a virtual spaceship game I don't want everything in the game to be ugly as well :P

Well, I don't know, it doesn't look too bad. The evil grin sort of grows on you. Actually Amarr are already going the wrong direction with the loss of the lit 'eyes' of the 'face' of the Executioner. But OK, I can see some changes being made. It's not as cool a design as some others, for sure. Even so

Apocalypse. One of the devs saw a picture his 3 year old daughter drew of their pet dog and decided to turn it into a spaceship. |

I like the unique design of all the ships Dorian Tormak dislikes. If they are upgraded I would want them to keep the same basic shapes that make them unique.
Now obviously this leaves players at a cross roads because while I like the Thorax and dislike the Celestis there is someone out there where the reverse is true.
Luckily there is a solution.

If anything we need more ship hulls, why would a universe as big as Eve have only one freaking hull? So stupid, I don't even respect your opinion on this matter, it's so unbelievably dumb.
Eve is big, there are not enough companies making spaceships for how big the universe is. Dorian Trollmak. Not trollin' |

Alright, I take that back, to a point. It should still be tweaked a little, add something more to it, I can't even see a cockpit area, would be nice to get a little more meat on it. Dorian Trollmak. Not trollin' |

They should start by following some basic, logical construction principles that also apply to fantasy space ships ... like not having half a dozen different types of main engine on the same hull. That's all kinds of nightmarish (i.e. "expensive"), from construction to piloting to maintenance.
Dorian Tormak wrote:Start thinking about the physical appearance of the spaceships, CCP. Your graphics are good, but the ship designs remind me of WoW.
Err ... I don't think the graphics are anywhere near "good". Nor do they need to be. I'd be perfectly happy with a tactical view in high-contrast primary colors that has ships replaced by symbols or stylized representations. The advantages of adopting such a style would be numerous, from not having to go through the graphics treadmill (from "not good" to "still not good") every couple of months, to providing a less confusing view of what's going on in the vicinity of your ship.

I have the exact opposite opinion of yours too. Almost to a point, the ships I find most distinctive and attractive are the ones you'd want revamped.
The ugliest ships in the game, in my opinion? Minmatar battleships, possibly excepting the Typhoon. Aerodynamics may not matter in space, but I'm just not into the asymetrical sailboat thing.

The Maelstrom is fairly symmetrical.
Also, if interpreted as part of the heat sinks, the "sails" on Minmatar ships even make sense. The ships have fairly high PGs (lots of waste heat), and you somehow need to keep those gun barrels from melting (more waste heat) ...
However, this contradicts the fact that Minmatar ships usually have small signatures ... |

I love how the Atron looks, to be honest.
About cockpit on the crucifier: Do you know how big these things are? On the right side of the picture you posted, do you see the cylindrical part of the ship? That's very much a place where a cockpit could be. Who needs windows anyway if you have a constant image feed from your camera drones, and, as capsuleer, most likely access to everything the ship's sensors perceive as if it were your own senses. |

Only real problem is that because of tiers some ships were designed with the idea of being weak.
The artists making them KNEW they were a low tier ship and shouldn't be as cool as the high tier ones.
Obvious examples are the Bantham and burst. |

My biggest problem is the slasher
Asymetry is fine No aerodynamics is good.
But what isn't good is not having the center of thrust going through the center of mass. Its not required in atmospheric flight because you can stabilize/counteract the torque using the atmosphere, but if that slasher fired its thrusters... that ship would start spinning/tumbling like crazy, and not really go anywhere.
The minmatar "sails" are fine as radiators... but please... have the ship plausibly look like the center of thrust goes through the center of mass. The slasher just looks wrong for a space ship. |

Yeah, the screening posses for ship designs needs to be more rigorous. There's nothing to say that Eve ships can't be unique, dark, and still not be cool at the same time. Ships like the Moa make me want to cry... :( |

Well, the ultimate goal of good graphics is to keep the players interested, not presented with ships so ugly that they loose interest in flying them. |

Crucifier: fine Atron: Fine Celestis: Fine. Griffin: Fine Incursus: Fine Probe: Fine.
Navitas: Actually, it is kind of OK. It kind of grows on you, but unfortunately, so do a variety of irritating fungal diseases.
Bantam: Looks like a half-stuffed turkey. Would not mind these being redesigned. Burst: Looks half-finished. Which, I admit, is very Minmatar. But even for a Minmatar ship it is pretty weaksauce.
