1. The ability to reset your first 1 million skill points ONCE. I think its a pretty safe bet to assume that almost every new player to this EXTREMELY LEARNING CURVED GAME has a skill tree that is all over the place for the first little awhile. This was done for the learning skills, it should be a once per character thing for the first 1 million skill points.
2. The ability to build, fit, link and save ships/items you don't own yet. Would be nice if I didn't have to use an external program to track the fitting I'm aiming for.
3. A skill tracker that ties into #2, so if I want to say aim to get a T2 fitted hound I can set it all up through my fitting and then have a nice drop down list of every skill I need to learn, how long they take and maybe even a suggested order. I know you can manually do this by looking at every item but it should be all nicely set.
4. The ability to display all skills in your skill window, even those that you haven't injected skill books for. This game is extremely involved and there is so much to learn and figure out. It would be nice to know what skills are available and what affects they have (and how they they take to train) so I can better pick what I want to focus on without having to scan through the market or an external website.
5. Better item descriptions.

1. is bad and you should feel bad. Figure out what the hell you're doing.
2. I'll give you this point WRT building fits. You can link any item or ship and you can save any fitting you're linked.
3. see certificates. See ship recommended certificates.
4. is already in game.

Point 1, Bad idea! If you do all 5 tutorial missions you should get some idea what you might like to do ingame. You can't muck up a characters development as you can learn all skills, you can only waste some time if you chose a career path that latter you decided to change.
Points 2, 3, 4 and 5. Pretty much what Yuki said, so I'll leave it there.

Edited by: KillaBoondox on 18/04/2011 07:40:39 I like the idea behind the first point but implementing it into the game would be tricky, do you get to use those million skill points to instant level things you already have? what about skills that depend on you having other skills? I wouldn't mind something like that being implemented into the game honestly, just seems tricky.

There's already a mechanic in-game for applying SP. Integrating such a thing would be trivial. However re-spec's are only useful in games where you have a hard cap and thus a need to reallocate.
You can always train more skills in EVE. Griping because you trained a skill you don't think you need anymore is pointless. Rewarding such thinking sends the wrong kind of message in a game where certain ships require a year of training just to be able to sit in, let alone fly effectively.
This is a slow paced game. You need patience for SP. You need patience to wait out timers. You need patience to find a suitable target. You need patience to wait for bug fixes. You need patience for feature iterations. CCP is from iceland. 1 is a bad ideea, in EvE there are no wasted skillpoints. Resets would make sense if you had a total number of skillpoints to spread between skills and you could ruin a character if you made the wrong newbie choice but in EvE if you missed something all you need to do is just start training it.

That is because patience costs time and time is money for ccp.
If they were smarter they would make an effort to improve the game play and win people over instead of sandbagging them.
To be quite honest this game should have double the subs simply because it's the only real sifi game out there today. This will not always be the case though. What keeps most people here are the never ending goals, the addiction to collecting things and the grief tactics used in eve that will get you banned in any other game.
Don't get me wrong..I'm an eve addict too,but lets be honest the gameplay both pve and pvp have a long way to go before I call them fun.
Patience is not what I call fun.I've had years of patience which are now worth nothing thanks to the ability to buy your char and plex,it's worth nothing at all anymore. The required patience from back then is what got me hooked. To have something for years of my patience that anyone else wasn't just going to get.
So "patience" isn't something I'd use to brag about eve.Its an easy way to keep people here without having to produce a lot of "real" new content or game changing/improving machanics.
Bottom line is make the game fun to play and not only will people stay but loads of new ones will join.Until then eve will stay a so called "niche game".

Some of these ideas are good some bad and some already in play but as far as "dumbing down" the incredible vision the EVE Universe to draw in the Button mashing zombies of the WOW generation .....NO THANKS!!! keep EVE in the sandbox where it belongs

It seems to me that in the universe of Eve the balance of the game is centered on the careers people choose to invest there time in. The industrialist is most likely invested the market, manufacturing, and/or mining. As the combat pilot has few social skills, and trade with little to none industry skills yet is capable of using those skills to generate capital via missions or merc corps. Either career is capable of doing what the other is best at, hince why the market is normaly kept in a equilbrium of prices throughout New Eden. Imo CCP would prolly see an overall increase in "happy new capuslers" if at the begining of your career you were promted a certain career path, one of which you are locked into for the rest of your career.
Now I know someone would say "Hey theres already turorial agents that offer that bit of info to new pilots why is this needed?" Well I think everyone can agree nobody likes competition especially the industrialist and the trader, but locking in your career means that you and the players who also chose your path are the only ones with that set ability. So now new players joining Eve have a clear vision for their future allowing skill times to maybe even shrink allowing everyone to get in the action a bit quicker, instead of spamming the same mission or the mundane throw and fetch asteroid till they reach the next level of their planned career. This is just an idea but I tend to think alot of progress in making Eve a great game is hindered by its players inability to bend on issues that might allow new players a chance to get more involved cause of this "right of passage" mentality.

1) Bad idea. In EVE you are rewarded for good decisions and punished for bad ones. This is a game and therefore nothing you do has inherent value. You need to attach emotions to provide meaning.
The right solution would be to get new players to join proper corps so they can learn what you can do in this game and what you need to learn or acquire. Sadly that is more complicated that it has to be. Read: The ingame corp ads are a bloody joke.

There's more to it than fitting: whole market & industry is basicly built around use of 3rd party applications, hell CCP didn't even bother to make game manual...
What you talking about is UI problem, mostly - it's too unintuitive, plus lacks lots of features that could be there, but provided by 3rd party applications instead (guess it's one of the reasons for not doing something). Even if it was told to CCP few thousands times already, but I wouldn't expect some meanmingfull changes to UI in a couple of years at least - when they will finally finish with their /dance-ing in stations and, maybe, linking EVE with Dust (even considering that UI is main problem with "new player expirience" CCP seemingly so care about). Unless they will decide chase some other asspuled shiny feature instead when that time comes (which is far more likely, I think). |

Oh i saw that the first time, i just see no reason for the work to be duplicated by CCP and why the third party programs would be any problem now that CCP has to make a in-game version

Edited by: Chevex on 18/04/2011 19:55:48 I am a noob as well and would absolutely love 2 and 3.
Other ideas to add to your list would be:
6. More auto-link dragging. I should be able to drag items from my cargo hold, or location names from my current destination or out of journal entries, etc etc etc. I hate typing part and right-clicking and going down several menu trees just for an auto-link.
7. The overall font and font size of the game should be customizable. My eyes aren't the greatest, even with my glasses, and it's extremely hard to read the text in this game.
8. Friend location viewer. I have a couple good friends that I love to play with and it sucks having to have them link me their system so I can come join them. Then when I get to the system they linked I find out they moved on to another system 5 jumps away during the 20 jump journey it took to get there. I want to see friends locations in real time. If that's some sort of privacy issue then give us the option to turn it off. If a friend and I add each other to our contact lists with excellent standings, EVE should recognize us as "friends" in the game and allow us to see where each other are. Or at the very least, we should be able to see this information on fleet members.
Going to the galaxy map and filtering the million stars by "fleet/corp members in space" is stupid and tells you nothing as you have to hover over each green star to see who it is. I should be able to right-click someone in fleet and navigate to a "location" sub-menu, and click "set destination". All I want is SOME way to see my friends' locations in real time, whether by mutual friends in contacts or by fleeting up I don't care, just something.
9. There should be an option to tell EVE to execute my window's default browser when I click URLs instead of the EVE browser. The EVE browser sucks and 90% of the links I click are youtube videos which don't even work in EVE browser because of its lack of flash support. Not only that but I have dual monitors and (at least for me) it would be really convenient to have it open up outside of eve in my other monitor rather than take up game screen realestate. At least give me the option to set it to launch my external browser.
That's all for now. I'm sure I could go on about lots of tiny things. Overall the game is great, just a few small gripes here and there.

This is not constructive feedback. For 2 and 3, listing external resources as rebuttals to his suggestion for a feature in the game is not the same as an answer to the request, especially when he specifically states that he does not want external programs for this purpose. More in-house features is better and new players would appreciate it much more. Also, for number 5, an ad hominem attack is hardly helpful or constructive. Sometimes the descriptions do suck in this game, and other times they are very descriptive and informative. I would agree that more details would help normalize that learning curve a little bit. Even with all of EVE's many many many options and complex concepts, a standard way to learn about each feature using only in-game resources would be tremendously helpful. It sucks when you don't understand what a "cynosural neural net cerebral electric inhibiting device widget thingamajig" is so you right-click and hit show info only to see one sentence, "A device that inhibits electric cerebral cortex neural net activity. duh"

So to sum this thread up.
CCP, please integrate EVEMon and EFT into your game. These tools are all but required to make sense of this huge game, and it's about time the EVE interface did these things naturally.
For the bit that isn't covered, 1 million screwed up SP isn't the end of the world. Either restart a new character, or plug the holes. Every character has wasted SP, it's just part of the game. Furthermore, you never know when those wasted points will save your carcass later. In the sandbox, anything can happen.

I like all his ideas, though some can be already achieved by other programs. I do remember starting EvE, and how useless my skill sets were at the beginning. There was a lot of skills that i wanted, but not realy needed, and a lot of essential ones that i didn't have.

Work on fittings you can't even fly yet? How about improving the fitting screen for ships I CAN fly... Like show me the effects of active hardeners if they were actually active.
Nothing like adding a hardener, then having to undock and activate it just to see the effect, then having to wait 30 seconds to redock to swap out and try again.
