There is no getting into it, others have more sp you DIE, YOU DIE!!! Don't belive the guys who says you can kill with a rifter and 1m sp, it's all lies. I found out the hard way and died 120 times in a rifter without a single kill.
YOU FAIL -> character bazaar is that way!

What type of pvp you into?
I DID get into it with a rifter and sub million SP. I still fly rifters now and then (although they are now significantly harder with the skills I've trained). I love solo or very small gang work. No where near the large amount of kills you can get doing other forms of PVP but then if I wanted stats I'd go gate camp.
I'm only 4 months into my pvp journey and loving it. Just remember don't get attached to your ship, you WILL die and often in solo or small gang work and have a game plan for which ship you want to be flying in the short, medium and long term and what it can and can't engage.
I'm am no expert, I'm pretty handy with DSCAN though. Just go out and **** about.... it's not as dangerous out in low sec or null as you think once you start to work it all out. You just have to make the mistakes we all make to start with. get it out the way with a T1 frigate fit now and it's all good.

I'm into leather and stuff. But some old fashioned full-on gank should do.

2 easy ways:
- Join something like EVE University. They can teatch you how-tos
- Train Warp jamming and blow up rifters against other stuff. You will learn something unless you are a complete ******.

Buy a bunch of inexpensive ships, go to low sec space, and start attacking things.
Remember, you will learn far more from your losses than from your victories. ---

High sec is the place for a fair shake at genuine solo pvp. Whether can flipping, ninja aggro or war dec'ing unorganized corps, you can generally rely on plenty of 1v1's through those methods.
As soon as you go to low sec, this changes. You finally find a fight only to find its bait, 4 hacs + logi warp in. Roaming around low, oops, theres a gate camp with 19 people waiting.
If your taking the word "soloist" seriously, check out all the high sec options. There are players making careers out of it, and taking in more ransoms than anyone in low sec.

Why not just pick up Modern Warfare 2 and and do the same thing? Because that's basically what you just told him to do.

Edited by: Ching Fung on 18/04/2011 21:38:04 Eve is a game where even 5 year veterans who take the game seriously will learn something new every week.
Don't go at this game with an attitude that you need to understand it all before risking a ship. You'll never see combat then.
More can be learned in a 5 minute dogfight than 5 hours of reading, so start cheap and get to fighting. Talk about what happened, ask people what you could have done differently, learn about the capabilities of ships and understand your own ships strengths, and before long you'll have a leg up on the majority of eve players.

Do what I've been doing - fly into a random lowsec system and warp to each of the roid belts. If you see a player, lock/scram/shoot them.
Did you win?
YES: Good job. Do it again.
NO: Figure out why. I've learned a ton from the battles I've lost.

That's where the 5 hours of reading happens.
