Let me give you an example. Back around 1989-90, Apple IIci could use 128 MBytes of RAM. An IBM and IBM-compatible machines could only use something like 8-32 MBytes of RAM. At the time, Macs cost a lot, but they also gave you a lot. Even today, when we want to upgrade our machines to be faster, the first advice is to use as much RAM as possible.

You can do that on a mac too. Or you could buy a pc for the same price of that upgrade ofc.

funny story, I actually got some ram for my bro's macbook pro for his birthday.
It was about as complicated as 'unscrew a few screws, pop in new ram'.
No joke.

So you're saying upgrading ram on a mac laptop is as easy as on most other laptops?

Uh ... on the subject of Mac's and Cooling Fans ...
When the Mac was first designed - Steve Jobs did not like fans and the noise they made - so he forbade fans on Mac's. It wasn't that he was just being stupid - he thought they could use other methods (which I'm not aware of but probably involved heat sinks and radiators) to keep them cool. They failed.
After some period of time and various numbers of Mac's over heating - they got cooling fans.
*shrug*
That was all a very long time ago though.
Say ... why does that link specify "youtu.be" instead of "youtube.com/" ?

Exactly. Now if you ever want to just reinstall the OS or something, and take it to the Mac store because that's the only way to do so, they'll see it's been opened and sneer at you, before having security remove you from the store.

Not sure what you mean. Are they giving out OS disks with Macs now?
edit: the security comment was clearly satire, so i assume it wasn't that.

I saw my brother in the past few days. He had a pretty looking slim Mac Book Pro. But his has a fault with the display and his partner's Mac Book Pro gets too hot to use it on the lap without a cushion 'should have got an IBM laptop' i chided . Three years ago I got an old IBM T40 - Pentium M 1.7ghz laptop of ebay. Though the battery has gone it is solid and has never failed me.

no, its just every exchange ive had with the apple store lacks any care that the mac was opened. Sure, they make it hard to do, but its certainly not impossible, and as long as you can tell apart the useful screws and the useless screws you havent an issue.

I would rather get ****d by a bunch of blacks rather than buy an apple product, your average mac that costs ú1000 is slower than a ú500 pc and frankly cant do anything unless your into music editing, video or hunting games that are compatable
