so, FW is one of the few things I haven't tried yet in EvE and I decided to give it a shot, so tonight I signed up for the Caldari militia but now I'm not entirely sure what to do. I just went to two of the 'Nearby Systems" from the militia window but they were dead and I'm not quite sure how to a) find targets or b) find plexes that I could do in my manticore. can anyone enlighten me?
thanks

You find plexes with the onboard scanner. You find enemies with the local chat and directional scanner. You find fleets by asking in militia chat. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Welcome to FW. You'll find some good information in the following link.

To answer your questions directly:
Originally by: Envoy Achates I'm not quite sure how to a) find targets or b) find plexes that I could do in my manticore.
a) Depends on what timezone you typically fly in and where you fly. Some timeszones are quite active while others are almost dead and systems closer to the "front lines" and "HQs" tend to see more action. To find out the latter just ask. It's typically not really a "secret" to those in militia. b) Stealth Bombers are not really equipped to handle plexes (but in FW missions they rock). Try using a "speed tanking" frigate with another person to capture them. _______________________

Okay a few things you need to know when joining caldari milita, Nour is the HQ for Caldari it's the high sec system right next to the tama gate, it's 3 jumps away from jita too,
And 7 jumps away through tama and low sec is Heydieles the Gallente HQ, if you want a fight, go there.
your probably gonna get popped if you go by yourself so insure your ship, and making sure your clone is to date is nice too,
I'd recomend joining a FW corp, the NPC milita corp is really boring, and if your in a corp you can get in more fleets, join my corp we are pretty small and know how to put a good frigate gang together every so often, we got a taranis last roam we did
If you like bigger corps, try 4 horses of the apocalypse, (it's probably spelt wrong)
Now about plexing, fit a probe launcher on a ship (D-scanning is too slow for me) and when you get a plex warp to it, plexs have limits on what you can take inside so be careful, also, plexxing in a manticore isn't smart, bring something more tanky.
And have fun!
Btw looking up FW on an eve wiki isn't going to hurt too,

Use this map.. Caldari_VS_Gallente
Also don't base in Norv off Tama as the other guy suggested. Tama gate is almost always camped with people farming noobs that jump in alone or unscouted.
If you intend to run plexes set up close to one of the many entrances to low sec in Black Rise. I'd suggest Ichoriya because it's a decent mission hub which means it has a decent market. It also has 3 different entrances to low sec with-in 2 jumps of it. Meaning when the Tama gate is camped, you aren't stuck in high sec like all the others whom choose to base in Nouv then complain because they have no fleet and can't jump into Tama.
Added to this the Bulk of the organized Militia corps live in Enaluri which is 2 jumps away into low sec and if you stick around you will probably try to get recruited by one of them and they run their gangs out of that system not Nourv.

It's "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" or The4 for short Thanks for the plug!
As everyone else has said, it's best to find a player corp that is active (be it big or small, The4 was small when I joined, which is one of the reasons I joined). Several of the larger Caldari corps (including The4) live in Enaluri. Mutnin pretty much covered it all. Welcome to militia, enjoy the meat grinder!

Better to base out of Black Rise low-sec. Right now, most of the low-sec Cal FW corps either live in Enaluri or Rakapas. Fly out there and start seeing if you can join up with some of the locals in the short term, and they may allow you to join their squad long term. Second, train up the CovOps skill and Cloaking 4 as soon as you can in order to have access to stealth bombers and CovOps ships. They'll be invaluable for helping you transition through the high-sec to low-sec transitions in Tama, Kinakka, Ikoskio, and Akadagi. A cloaky hauler (blockade runner) will really allow you some freedom, since you can bring in small ships, modules, and ammo to make up for whatever's not available locally on the market. That being said, the Enaluri market is pretty good as long as you're looking for basic Frigate/Cruiser modules and ships. Rakapas has a more limited market (and fewer players/corps based there).
Good luck, and if you ever need any help, most of the low-sec based corps are willing to assist those that separate themselves from the mob living in Nourv.

Things I've learned in the few days I've been in the Minmatar Milita:
- Set up your base in a low sec system - most high sec entrances will be camped - When getting supplies from market hubs, try longer, not so obvious routes back to your base - shortest routes from market hubs will be camped - Never assume nearby militia members will help you when attacked, just run (got shot down by a Tengu while militia BS sat there and watched the fun) - If you avoid (once again) obvious routes you can solo FW missions and find opposing solo pilots - Everybody will tell you to leave the NPC corp, but when you ask for a corp that accepts low skillpoint (as in some days old) characters, the chat will go quiet for about 10minutes - FW is way more fun than high-sec carebearing ! ;)

Ok I lol'd @ that one. It is true though, not many really want to take total noobs because running a big corp is already a lot of hand holding and noobers often need a lot of hand holding on top the the general hand holding. (lol hence the reason my corp has 4 people)
I have on a few occasions recruited noobers that I saw out soloing but they typically murder your KB stats. Not that stats are a major thing but, lets be honest it is kinda and no one wants to have a guy adding 50 loses for every one kill.

noobs wanting to get into militia pvp are better off seeking out other noobs and getting some positive stats, rather than trying to join an established FW corp right away and or to try (and fail) to join the pr0 gangs/fleets.
Its not just about the bad kb stats and lolfits, a newb doing the wrong thing esp with intel can get everyone else killed - people are looking out for themselfs as well as their corps/militias k/d ratios.

Edited by: K''eval on 20/04/2011 15:48:38 I guess "Spies everywhere!" plays into it as well. As if the Amarr will drop dead on their own in shock and awe when they finally realise you hang around in Auga/Kourm/Huola most of the day ;)
Currently I'm doing FW missions and have a "learn to avoid fights" kind of goal, while my skills and budget grow. I wouldn't stand a chance in a fight anyway with all the pimped out ships flying around.

Edited by: Ming Tao on 20/04/2011 23:44:42 Join the militia and go out and die a few times. Try to make friends with militia player corp people and join them. Best way to experience FW is in a non NPC corp. It cuts down on the SPAI!!! issue considerably.
Or consider joining red corp or blue corp.. Eternally at war with each other. Sort of a private FW.

Hey guy don't listen to my advice, turns out they are very right, I myself is going move to ichoriya, the level 4 agents are really good, and plus if I'm in enuluri I can try to fly with Wolfbrigade and The 4 more
Only problem I have with going there is jita is farther, and you have to go to Nour for some of the fleets you find in milita chat,

best thing to do imo, is get a SB & start running FW Missions, this will get you acquainted with the FW systems, get you some LP & rank. You'll also run into other players who will in turn be more likely to invite you to join them to run a plex or fly in a roam fleet. You'll also encounter the enemy in their home turf & get an idea of how the whole thing works. Look for opportunities to get solo kills, some ppl use FW Missions as bait, make your bookmarks & just hang around & learn. I've been doing FW for about 8 months now & it's been a blast, it's just a matter of being patient & flying smart & learning, before long you'll be in the eye of the storm. GL

Step 1 pick a side Amarr/Caldari or Minmatar/Gallente
Step 2 pick your militia
Step 3 join a corp in the militia, or bring yours, don't go alone or you won't have nearly as much fun.
Step 4. PvP
Step 5. ???
Step 6. profit.
