Today the Captains Quarters went live the on Duplicity Test server, and EVE Report was there to check it out for those of you who don't have the means or time. The piece takes a look at this alpha version of the CQ and we also included some pretty pictures .. head on over and give it a read!

I like how the article began itself with the idiom of rock dwellers. Love being treated to quality posting.

Great article and another EVE site I can add to my Chrome bookmarks...
Just one thing though OP - it's the Duality server, not Duplicity.

Looks like a untextured Uni students work. Have to say I really hope a lot of the development time was in the engine and behind the scene stuff cus the visual model coulda been made in about 6hours.

And tbh I hope none of that "behind the scenes" work had anything to do with optimization because I'm only getting like 25 fps when I'm inside the CQ and 40 fps on the balcony.

Considering they're adding a completely new aspect to the game that has never been there before and having to account for its interaction with every other part of the game (example: it bugs out horrendously if you change graphics settings while in the quarters), it's no surprise it's in such a rough state. A lot of development time is gonna be spent on just getting the damn thing to play nice with the rest of the game.
I imagine the artists are also going full-bore on the other races' quarters at the same time.

If I can't bring alliance mates to quarters for some 'diplomatic talks' I'm going to be a sad panda

Exactly, it is quite easy to ignore just how much has to go into something 'as simple as' the captains quarters. This is why this is a very vital step toward making Incarna a reality, in fact a lot of the work that is behind this IS Incarna, because it creates a foundation for the interconnectivity between the current game, and the future game.

I don't know what your problem is. The lighting and shadow maps look good. It just needs detailing and lots of high res textures, that's all.

Neat little feature. I dont want to sound negative but Im hoping they do some serious texture work before it goes live. Looks like games released 5+ years ago. :(

Originally by: Avery Ann I think that the CQ will be an important part of EVE, and that it, even in this alpha stage, shows that Incarna will have a great ... impact on the game.
How right you are. You may say this impact is inescapable. ...

Are you - and other people arguing this point - aware that Incarna has supposedly been in development for years? Wasn't there a playable demo at like Fanfest 2009 or something?
