I believe it would depend on the ship and fit. A buffer tanked Zealot could probably tank the gate guns but the issue is that the Zealot is a questionable solo choice due to its lack of GTFO ability. -------------------------------------------------- I am the Love Angel, Wedding Peach, and I am very displeased by your lack of love! |

That depends on what you mean by "tank." If you mean permatank them solo, no as a rule. In fact, BC's can't do that either nor can most BS's (anyone who whips out an active tanked abaddon I'm going to laugh at). If you mean survive them long enough to gank a hauler and gtfo, then yes, most of them can. Alternatively if you have a few friends with you to share aggro or a pair of logi to keep you and themselves up, then yes, sentries aren't a problem. With logi, even some frigate hulls can manage. The MSE jaguar works pretty well under sentry fire if you have a pair of basi's for example. Obviously it's just fast tackle for bigger stuff in that role. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

You can generally buffer a cruiser or larger to survive the station/gate guns long enough to kill whatever it is you're shooting at and get out. Drakes and Canes can "tank" the guns for quite some time, but this requires either A) An all-tank no-gank fit B)Capacitor/cap boosters for an active tank. The former limits your ability to apply DPS and the latter limits your ability to keep your propmod, lasers/hybrids, and tackling modules active.
In general it's best to just buffer/DPS fit and get out as soon as you can. A neat trick you can do is use drones. I use ECM drones heavily and it seems like the station/gate guns primary those, which can give you a precious few more seconds to do whatever it is you're doing. ------------------- The path which can be seen is not the True Path |

Sentry guns use random target selection and switch every 15s (or is it 30? I don't remember). So if you deploy 5 drones, there are 6 targets available to the sentries and only one of them is actually your ship. ECM drones are indeed very handy and cheap way for reducing the damage coming at you as such. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

You just need a buffer big enough to make a kill and get out, and as pointed out above the sentries cycle targets. 5 plated ruptures have no issues with sentry fire. If you want to sit and tank sentries (which is stupid unless you have a big gang and logis) then no, t1 cruisers cant tank them. t2 cruisers/t1 bcs can but will gimp their fit to do so (nothing more emebarassing than losing a gimped hac to a mission raven).

My Broadsword perma-tanks the sentries just fine. |

Going with "standard" fits, a T1 cruiser with a resist bonus or a 1600mm plate will survive long enough to be useful. I wouldn't recommed trying it in something like a caracal or stabber though.
T2, similar applies. Devoter yes, Diemost no. ---------- Who, me? |
