I would totally be interested in doing this. I know quite a few great places in Austin to hold a Meet Up. Austin has a booming downtown area with great venues, but the choices aren't limited to just that area.
Over the next few days I'll get together a list of venues and we'll work this thing out!
Come on Texas. Let's do this thing!

HereÆs the thing about holding this particular meet up in Austin and on the weekend of October 8th. The Game DeveloperÆs Conference Online 2011 (GDC Online 2011) is being held in Austin, TX October 10-13th. Soà. What we are hoping is that maybe some of our favorite folks from CCP would maybe breeze in to town a little early and have a couple of drinks and some lively conversations.
Hopefully that little tidbit will cause the Austin location and Oct 8th date to be a little more tantalizing.

Well, the date and time was suggested by CCP Dashi via e-mail. For me that indicates there may already be some CCP interest in having a meet up in Austin for this date, so I believe Acinom and I will go ahead and stick to Austin and October 8th. If you'd like to combine the Dallas and Austin event, that would be great. If not; two events are cool too. I'm sure some folks may not be able to to make one, but can make the other.
I'm behind you 100% Iosue. Austin has too much to offer in the way of Tech/Gaming and sheer awesomeness to not have a meet up. I'll be speaking with Acinom eithe rtonight or tomorrow so we can proceed with planning. I've gotten two suggestions so far: Opal Divine Scholz Beir Garten
Any others before I start calling about and working the mojo?

One of the drinks at Frank's: RED HEADED STRANGER House-made bacon-infused TitoÆs Vodka, Frank bloody mary mix, garnished with bacon, cheddar cheese, jalapeno stuffed olive, peperoncini *Can be made with regular olÆ boring vodka
This place is going on my call list. Keep Austin Wierd! I was also talking to my boss about different places and he mentioned Frank's too. The only thing that worries me is DT parking. Eek!

Facebook Event Post
For ease of tracking interest... I've made a facebook event for the Austin Meet-Up. It is open invite, so if you plan on attending go ahead and RSVP so Jason and I can get an idea of what we need to plan for.

********** UPDATE **********
Unfortunately Kung Fu Saloon is out. :( However...
I am currently talking to the management at Lavaca Street Bar (here's their Yelp page).
They have a nice lite backroom area, several fun games, 21 flat screens and of course a nice bar and a slammin grill.
(Plus it's still close to 6th street )
More updates to come soon!

Utoh... Are you all going to let the ATX get taken over by WIdot? Is resistance futile? Will it be a WIdot local?
Only one way to find out!

Originally by: Jonathan Ferguson Please Dani, I don't like CCP trying to force me to use Spacebook and I'd rather you not try to force me to use Facebook. If you could make an exception and consider me RSVP'd from here, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Yes. Yes. Yes. If you do not use "The Facebook", but still want to RSVP for your swag; you are certainly welcome to do that here in the forums. As long as it's in one of those two places, you are good! It's more or less for head count and to make sure I have enough goodies.
Also... I heard that one of the swag items is landed. Hopefully I can get Jason to post a picture of the amazing custom Not A Lot of News tee shirts that were done up!
I also heard that another piece of swag was in production and will be arrived shortly. You'll just have to remain wrought with anticipation if you're curious about what it could be. I don't want you all getting too excited now.

There is already a monthly Austin Eve Online meetup that takes place the 2nd Friday of every month:

I'm glad that one of our members found out about this meetup and got the word out to the rest of us.
Yea, when you pull your head out of the TEST forums it's amazing what you can find.
btw I can't wait for August 12th (That's the next meet up time. Spider House Cafe. Be there Austin.)

Originally by: Xel Set I live in Austin, showed up at 8 (after work), and couldn't find anyone without walking up and asking at random, which I wasn't willing to do, and no one seemed to fit the bill anyway. But I tried to be obvious about standing around and looking like I was looking for people. Neither the bartenders nor the doorman had heard about any groups meeting up. :( I never checked out the FB page. I just went based off a Voices From the Void ad I overheard. Did I miss some crucial instruction?
(P.S.: I had a nice beer anyway, but would have rather met up with the group!) :)
You were a couple of months too early. The meet is October 9th. See ya there! Arydanika Co-Host of Voices from the Void |
