Every single person in the entire galaxy (roughly 350,000 people) will have their own individual officer's quarters on every single space station in the entire galaxy.
So there are 350,000 officers quarters on every single space station... Hmmmm...... OK.
Wouldn't it have made more sense from an immersion perspective to make several different station models and have different areas for different services, so you can actually see everyone else who's currently at the same station as you?
It just seems weird to spend years developing and hyping Walking In Stations only to end up giving everyone a single room.

No, not troll... Noob.
So they plan to implement a full multiplayer station environment eventually?

They are planning to implement avatars. They are planning to implement a console FPS shooter using said avatars, called Dust 514. From what they've been saying so far, they plan to restrict avatar-PVP to the console shooter, meaning that EVE players won't get to shoot anyone from within EVE.
They're also working on their World of Darkness / Vampire MMO, using the avatar system.
We're beta-testing it.

Edited by: Sader Rykane on 24/04/2011 17:18:42 So a battleship can fit around 10,000 people, and a station can fit hundreds if not thousands of battleships.
Yet you're worried about them making 350,000 office rooms the size of my closet?

If you watched the fanfest presentation they made it quite clear that Captains Quarters are like motel rooms for capsuleers, they are dependent on the race of the station, they are not personalized. And obviously this is just the beginning of Incarna.

I'm not saying they couldn't fit 350,000 individual rooms for every single person in the galaxy in every single space station in the galaxy.
I'm saying it sounds silly, especially when you can't see the other people in the station.

The point is that captain's quarters is only the first step in incarna. They plan to implement multiplayer environments soon after captain's quarters is released, wherein you will have the ability to own bars/clubs complete with strippers if you'd like and corporations can put physical office spaces in where players can apply if they so desire. They've chosen to do it this way so that they don't release anything before it is ready. We will also be able to own pets, and from what I've heard, you can splice their genes to make new pets. This will create new professions. And then customization of you CQ's will make more tradable objects like furniture. Then you can invite your friends over for whatever you and your friends might want to do or just to show off your room. Incarna won't stop with captains quarters. Promise

Wrong. Our EVE Avatars have nothing to do with DUST avatars, different game. To the OP, why is it so hard to look up the most basic and easily accsessable information before making some stupid assumption and an idiotic post. To the people who answer questions on the forum, keep you mouth shut unless you know what your talking about. simple.

I don't know about you, but I haven't docked at every single station in the game. Tell me of a single business that creates services for every single "potential client" on the planet? You can just assume, that like most business, they aren't ever really planning to have every single capsuleer dock in one place.
Not to mention, realistically speaking, if every single capsuleer was in once play, said place would probably be bombed to hell and back. We're pretty dangerous individuals.

We, are demi-gods and WE, are more important than anyone else in the whole of the EVE universe.
It's a little bit like when the high rollers land in Las Vegas on their private jet - all the casinos are fully prepared with details of how they like to have their rooms arranged and what brand of vodka needs to be in the drinks cabinet...and whether erotic dancers are necessary.
We are the same - the minute we go through a jump gate, the local stations are all notified of our arrival and make sure their accommodation is ready to receive us, should we decide to dock.
Just like vegas, the likelihood of every single high roller landing on the same day and the same time is 365 x total number of high rollers to 1.
And that's pretty high odds.
New Eden is similar.
Besides...it's not like it really matters, about the size of the stations that is - look at Jita 4-4, talk about TARDIS-esqe size dilations.
The thing to remember is the CQ will be exactly how YOU want it to look, no matter what station you dock at.

As a multi billionaire I find the captains quarters leave a lot to be desired, even compared to your average suite in your average city hotel.
Closet is an appropriate word for the CQ's. It would fit a captain's cabin aboard a ship (if we weren't floating in a space womb pod anyway), not the room of an honoured, filthy rich guest that can easily afford the most luxurious accomodation.

Difference here being that space is at a premium in stations. Beyond that, it's not like we have any reason to particularly care considering we spend most of our time in pods anyways. All we really need is a place to relax and munch on some protein delicacies.

For me, it would be mostly the point of why we'd need quarters in the first place, given that pod pilots spend all the time in a pod filled with goo and using a neural interface to deal with controling the ship, learning skills and dealing with other individuals and events....There isn't even a toilet inside a pod at all, wich brings up the point as to how one relieves one self while inside it.
Then there's the transition between being in the pod and disconnecting said interface and the fluid inside the pod draining and getting dressed and walking about the station, since we have been in pods for the past 8 years now and managed to handle everything just fine, from trades to wars to diplomacy and missions to manufacturing goods of all kinds, so i still don't see a point to walking in stations from a practical perspective, as no new capabilities are added to the game overall with it.
As pod pilots, we'll outlive everyone who isn't one, so making relationships with non pod pilots only to see them die eventually seems painfull and rather pointless...It's the price we pay unfortunately.

It has nothing at all to do with what we need, it's to do with what ccp want. We get to be paying beta testers of their new MMO software. Everything else is just fluff to disguise that fact.
Heaven forbid the resources for emo-d&%ks online be used to put right all the stuff that's wrong with the golden goose that is EVE... |

Wich include not meeting that special someone, or having kids of our own, or outliving everyone even remotely related to us?....That isn't a choice, but a very heavy price indeed.

Bingo....CCP has been straying relative to what EVE is for quite a long time now unfortunately, ignoring the core game altogether and veteran players such as myself, who've been playing since the game hit retail in 2003, are bored stupid with no objectives left to accomplish in the game.
I'm training all the skills in game just to keep the char busy with something, not because i have a need or an interest in doing so.

Indeed OP, you have a good point. I raised a similar one in this old thread: True Captain¦s Quarters VS Captain¦s Hostel
And as others already mentioned, these are the standardized Capsuleer quarters every station has. On fanfest it was explained that eventually you¦ll be able to upgrade to more lavish personalized quarters. Though I¦m not holding my breath on THAT one.
I will be mightily surprised if we can actually step out of our cupboard into the station this time next year. ______________ Mal-¦Appears we got here just in a nick of time. What does that make us?¦ Zoe-`Big damn heroes, sir.` Mal-¦Aint we just.¦ |

I guess you haven't been around long enough to see the amount of half released expansions CCP has implemented over the last 3~4 years then, where the content of those has yet to be further developed to it's full potential even today, yet CCP just keeps moving to the next big thing.
As an example, the original game plan in 2003 called for 5 tech levels(stated by oveur at the time i believe), yet here we are 8 years later, and not even all of the tech 2 ships and moduels have been released yet, and only 1 class of Tech 3 has been released so far, so at this leisurly pace, the odds are pretty good that i'll kick the bucket before ever seeing a tech 5 ship in game...

These stations house hundreds of millions of people. They are bigger than most cities on earth AND make 3d use of space.
So I'd be more concerned that they are scaled totally wrong in space, and that despite spaciousness inside, most bs's can't fit out of most docking bay openings.
You could say it's bigger on the inside like cans. But then why can't I put prostitutes into a secure container |

They also talked about corporation offices. Every station you have an office in you can join your corp buddies. They envisioned a room where you can talk plans and pull up maps and do all that kind of stuff with your corp buddies.

That's where it starts falling apart, since as you know, super carriers and titans wich are getting higher and higher in numbers as time goes on, and are piloted by senior members of corporations, can't dock in stations so those same pilots can't participate in corporate meetings in the flesh within incarna now can they...
It would be beyond stupid to leave their ship, even in a POS, in order to attend such a meeting as they risk getting their ship either stolen or blown up...
