I ask because I've got a few Jaguars, Claws, Wolves and Rifters in my hangar and I'm bored with ACs. Any viable setup that works for real combat and not just trying to one-shot pods?

You can get away with am MWD, Long Point, Tracking Disruptor, +something else for the Rifter and Jag. Nano, TE, something else for the lows, possibly micro core depending and 250's up top. It is a different setup and doesn't kill as fast, but can work well against other turret ships. ________________________________________________

Edited by: Concubinia Scarlett on 26/04/2011 15:50:30 Tackle stilletos with long range points and the odd TP Vigil are the only times I've ever found a use for arty on frigs. Works nicely when fit to thrashers tho

The question I ask with fitting a ship is what possible applications can that ship do and what advantages does it have over another ship.
Artillery on a Frigate means that you want Frigate speed but long range. However, your tracking will be terrible and obviously, you will need range.
I personally can't think of a reason why to put Artillery on a frigate unless you wanted to fly a Wolf like a Slicer. -------------------------------------------------- I am the Love Angel, Wedding Peach, and I am very displeased by your lack of love! |

250mm howitzer fits nicely onto a 3 * standard launcher mwd Breacher. Kite away on those t1 AB frigs, not that there's many of those...

Well AC's are more pratical, easier to fit, track better, and do more damage. But if u want to stay out of webrange, speedtank, and tackle then arties may be worth a shot because even small AC's with barrage is really close to overloaded webrange. Like another poster said, it's great for tackling ships and speed tanking ships.
Tell me how it works out for u.

For mentioned frigates arties arent so great but they are amazing on thrashers (also see Thrasher ac vs arty thread below). If you really insist on using them on frigates, a Wolf with MWD and long point together with 250's should work. Jag has an optimal range bonus but the DPS is anemic with arties.
