I am getting really tired of the client simply crashing and then restarting. Normally this is just an inconvienence but I just lost a CNR worth over 700M ISK. I raised to petition and was basically told by GM Eskimo to SUCK IT UP AND MOVE ON. So am I the only one who has this happen to them ?

Edited by: J Kunjeh on 26/04/2011 22:18:59 Nope, you're not the only one. I've had more PC crashes (yes, PC..my whole system locks up when Eve's client crashes) in the last 3 weeks than I have in the nearly 3 years I've owned this PC. I opened a petition about the character creator crashes, but after a few back-and-forth's with the Bug Hunters it's mysteriously gone MIA.
But the CC is far from the only crash I have, it's just the only repeatable one. I bet I crash on average once per play session (though my sessions typically last me at least 2-3 hours).

While my computer does not freeze up the client does crash several times a week. Only problem is that unless you have a CCP employee looking over your shoulder they do not believe you, after all the more ISK you lose the more money you have to pay to make it back.

Nope, she definitely crashes. at first i thought it was my connection, but when it now crashes upon log-in with no signs of internet disruption, i know something is going on. can't blame traffic either b/c i've noticed that daily user count is actually way down.

Guess I'm lucky I have a reliable operating system with a fairly modern computer. I haven't had any crashes (EVE or otherwise) in a year or so and my computer runs 24/7.

Had this issue a few weeks back. Clearing the cache and restarting it fixed it. I have also suffered from my machine giving a BSOD while playing eve and watching youtube. However I am led to believe that the issue was a flash one (hasn't happened since I patched flash the last few times).

If you lost a CNR to a crash then it's your fault for having such a ****ty tank on it.

THIS.
Yes, I learned the same lesson the hard way. You will get over it and move on. Golem with named XL shield booster on cap-stable autorepeat works well.

If you cannot say something intelligent then say nothing. The tank of your ship means nothing if you are kicked off and cannot fight back.

log server dump and a dxdiag file? sheesh...
how do you expect them to fix it if they dont know why yours is crashing and theirs isn't
and maybe provide some replication methods, they need a lead on what actions might be cause it

Most everything people call a "crash" is likely a disconnect and not a crash. Your ISP is most likely to blame.
If your whole PC is crashing while playing Eve, then you most likely have a hardware problem.

Yep, the client had been pretty unstable for me, for most of the yrs I've been playing eve.
Over multiple computers, it regularly freezes up, most of the times the whole computer.
Any its the only game or app that does it on my PC.
One thing CCP are really bad on is 'intermittent' type bugs, as the BHs just reject any bug that they cant reproduce 100%, and these ones arnt set by a certain type of activity or order.

Ive had client crashes when dual boxing lately, BUT, only 1 client crashes (this is how i know it's not my connection that's at fault)
Had 3 crashes last night whilst running an escelation smack dab in the middle of FW-territory lol, lost me a few drones and almost my poor ishkur^^
But yeah lot's of client crashes lately and I had a "socket fail" earlier this morning :/

I have periods in which EVE crashes quite frequently and the Incursions update hasn't done a lot of good for EVE's stability either.

The bug where the graphics flashes repeatedly has gone MIA too. It's not in the patch notes. Their sun occlusion calculation tries to occlude the sun with planets that are AU's away from me, invisible. It's stupid.
But all's ok because fixing bugs doesn't increase revenue, only new shiny does (nevermind the fact that CCP's "shiny" is turds).

Zero ISP problems here...I telecommute and use my connection 12 plus hours a day, no issues there.
As for hardware being the issue...I never have crashes at any other time, only when using the Eve client. So yeah, it's definitely something with the client.

Edited by: Antihrist Pripravnik on 28/04/2011 13:51:45 I don't have client crashes, but some other weird stuff is happening. For example, everything just stop working, you can't activate a module, jump, move, see skills, etc. but chat is working perfectly, local gets updated and client doesn't crash. Internet connection work correctly at that moment. The only solution is to restart the client.
I've cleared the cache (both ways) and used repair tool, but nothing helps. It's not happening all the time, so I'm not too worried about it.
It started with the last ninja patch (no not the one from today, but the one before that).

started for me since the patches with the new character creator lock ups /crashes every day logserver shows errors while loading char images and char texture files
guess the cache is screwed although i deleted it multiple times

Definitely not alone. I have a bug report open, but so far they've failed to find anything that might help fix the issue. I can't send them a log unfortunately because it locks up my whole system and therefore the log that's running never gets saved.

Oh wow. I have also been having EVE client related problems after having fired up a Firefox client and watched youtube (or Flash, in general?) content.
Specifically, after having launched one or more Firefox client instances and loaded flash-based content (Youtube primarily), launching the EVE client results in the eve client crashing before it gets to the log-in screen.
Thankfully, no BSOD issues and quitting out of all Firefox instances re-enables EVE clients to launch successfully. As much as I hate to say it: thank goodness for the stability of Windows Vista.
This problem started up somewhere around the launch of Incursion 1.4 and persists to this day.

Edited by: ShadowsMirror on 28/04/2011 16:19:50 Random disconnects are a fact of life, losing a CNR is a real pain, but for a ship that expensive you should really consider dual repping, because eventually it will happen again.
Anyways, I too have had the annoying disconnects, usually happends when running more then 1 client. Thankfully it hasn't happened during a hostile environment.
As for straight up computer locking, thats definately a hardware issue. Cheap motherboards, cheap ram, different ram modules, bad sectors on hard drive, not formatting the computer at least once a year etc all those factors come into play. I've never had issues with any game, ever that wasn't fixed with a bit of tinkering.

Well, at least in my case, it's not random. It happens every time I try to go into the character creator. I do have random crashes, but they're only random in the context of the Eve client...crashes never happen on my PC when using other programs.

I haven't had a client crash for a while - mostly since I concentrated on industry (the last two or three weeks). Prior to that, running Level 4's caused the most crashes (triple-boxing), with exploration the second highest (dual-boxing).
Advice given here is good however: in PvE, don't get caught with your pants down on a client crash. Make sure you have a solid tank and/or an RR chum.

Edited by: Orlacc on 28/04/2011 16:58:00 Pretty much all the above crashes would seem to be video related. Especially Firefox/Youtube/Flash.
Make sure you video drivers are current and turn off HDR in EVE.
If you have Windows you can go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer>Windows Logs>System and it will show what happened when you crashed and what likely caused it.

i just updated my drivers (though logserver shows failed download errors) and client froze just as before.
i did however disconnected my router and connected directly through the modem seems to work for me. no disconnects at all cant say for sure why that is
