Edited by: Mikk36 on 29/04/2011 12:16:48 Hey there again, I'm back again with yet another creation.
This time it's a game log analyzer, which picks up combat entries from these files.
Eve Combat Log Analyzer
Sample log file
"But where do I get these logfiles?" You ask, they're located in your My Documents\EVE\logs\Gamelogs folder.
Multiple files can be given to the application, in which case it will scan them all and they can also be dragged from explorer to the browser onto the appropriate area on the top. Another word of advice would be that you can zoom in on the graph by dragging the wished area. Also, don't try to load too many (ie, the full folder) files into the application, you'll just hang/crash your own browser.
It's built entirely in Javascript and it utilizes a HTML5 feature called File API, so a rather recent browser is needed to run this at all. At the moment I can confirm that Firefox 4 and Chrome 6+ are supported, I haven't tested the site in any recent builds of Opera. As it's fully implemented in Javascript, the log files are only loaded into your browser and all processing is done locally, nothing is sent over the internet.
Why did I develop this? Because I was not satisfied with the programs available on the internet, one just not working, the other giving nonsense graph if multiple weapons were being used.
Also, if you see any log entries listed directly below the graph, please let me know by posting into either this thread or evemailing me directly.

+1, nice, clean, simple, effective.
...and a big +1 for the background image; I've seen it around but this is the best use for it so far. :D

Quite handy, bookmark'd and then adblock'd for the bg-image, too distracting so it had to go.

Looks great. Only thing that looked odd to me was when I tested it with some old logs from 2007. I got this strange result.

Good day, Mikk36:
First, thank you so much for this tool.
Can you make two changes?
1. Remove the background image to make it cleaner (it helps for those of us who like including screen shots in blogs).
2. Add % hit as a total of all shots fired so one can see how well one is hitting; I would add this information as a column after missed hits.
3. Renamed missed hits to misses.
Thank you again!!!!

Nice, would also like to "zoom" if that would be possible, with logs with few hours you get a bit messy graph.

First thing, that's three changes :D But I'll listen to them anyways. Removing background as that was made as a joke anyway. Added hit percentage to both total and per target. Good day, Mikk36:
Thank you for the changes.
On a graph, I saw the following text:
Hit target -4 times Missed target 6 times Hit percentage -200% Total damage dealt: 951.7 Hit you 0 times Missed you 0 times Hit percentage NaN% Total damage received: 0
TargetTotal damageAverage damageHitsMissesHit % group of 720mm Howitzer Artillery II Rampage2010 [H.TH]'Moon 3' (Jaguar)951.71198625%
TargetTotal damageAverage damageHitsMissesHit %
QUESTIONS:
If you have 8 hits and 6 misses that should mean 14 shots fired. If 8 out of 14 hit, then the % hit would be 57.14%. Correct?
What is the math behind the following?:
Hit target -4 times Missed target 6 times Hit percentage -200%
Thank you.

Yeah, that -4 is kind of odd, could you provide me with the log file for that? Currently on the top, it lists total hits minus missed hits (ie, hits that didn't miss), should propably change that to show total hits (that is, I just did that while writing this reply).

Edited by: Mikk36 on 30/04/2011 20:29:40 Ok, I've got a question for you (the community). Currently the Hits value represents all hits, including the misses, but I'm not sure this is what people expect that value to be.
So the question is: should it show all hits including the misses or only the hits that hit the target?

Good day:
In my opinion, the hits should just be hits (what actually hit the target), and misses just misses.
Thank you!

A hit is a hit, and a miss is a miss. The terminology there is really unambiguous. You must be thinking of "shot" which can be either a hit or a miss.
10 shots 7 hits 3 misses

2 things though, more of a request type.
1) Could you add a selectable option to filter out longer periods of inactivity. i.e. if i havent shot anything or nothing has shot me for a minute it marks the period as idle and int the summary shows how much time i spent idling around. If you can make this could i request that the filter feature be a selectable option.
2) If possible could you make log file comparison option. i.e. i use 2 different logs (say 2 different fittings) and id like to see the difference in overall or specific places it would be handy dandy to have 2 graphs on same page rather than just use 2 browser windows scaled.
P.S - The Hello kitty apoc is still the best reskin of apoc so far.

Kari Trace, thank you for your kind words, even over my Cynabal that was a learning experience (I still remember my right hand shaking so bad during the battle that I was trying to hold it steady with my left hand).

Good day, Mikk36:
I just noticed the combat logs do not show what ammo is being used.
Is there any way to have the logs show ammo type and then include that break down in the graph?
Thank you.

This information is not present in combat log directly. You could guess it by weapon reloading messages, but it'd be an unreliable guess. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Good day:
Thank you for the info.
I don't switch ammo often, but against http://www.minmatar-militia.org/kb/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=193621 I switched from scorch to imperial navy multi-frequency S. I was not paying close enough attention to how many seconds into the fight so that I would be able to manually mark off on the chart.
Thank you.

Edited by: Jackson Millenius on 16/05/2011 11:25:59 Hey I wanted to check your app out, but upon clicking the link it says it supports Firefox 4+. I'm using Firefox 3.6. Is there anyway you can create compatibility for older versions of browsers?
Would be nice if you could eventually create a 3rd party stand alone application from this removing a need for the browser entirely :P

Firefox 3.6 is not supported because it doesn't have the proper implementation of File API, a feature of HTML5.
It would be possible to get older browsers to be supported, but that would involve uploading the logs to the server and then back again, a step that I don't like in case of such log files. I would have to start limiting the size and so on. Currently when you give it too much, you'll just hang your own browser.

Edited by: Xing Chima on 19/05/2011 02:35:30 How hard would it be to show points on the graph when you start hitting a different target? Change the dot colour for that time period and show the target name when clicked on would keep the basic graph clean and still provide the functionality.
Would be a little messy if you start hitting multiple targets but would do wonders for comparing the damage between different ones. Maybe a third colour if you been have hiting multiple targets within a given time period?
