Just a quick question I would like to ask the community as a whole. When do you become/ considered a veteran? Is this a place reserved for players from the beginning? Would I after playing from 05 be considered old enough to call myself a veteran?
I ask due to the sudden influx of self titled ôvetsö complaining about things, and in some cases talking on behalf of all vets.(note* IÆm not say if they are or are not veterans but this is how the introduce themselves)
So what is the age/ needs to be seen as a veteran of eve online?
P.S This is unless what they mean by vet, is a veterinary worker, in which case I donÆt see what its relevance is half the time

Simple answer: You're a vet when you no longer have to ask yourself this question.

I only ask as some people claiming to be a veteran I could really disagree with (they only have 2-3 years) while I would personally see myself as a veteran, after clocking up around 6 and a bit years.
I'm only really asking so we all and can understand who the real veterans are, and who is just trying to big themselves up to make it sound like their point is more valid.

The real question becomes, why do you care what they call themselves? Is there some benefit to being an "offically sanctioned veteran"? Cause it sounds like it's all about your epeen.

no there is no benefit to it at all. It just annoys the hell out of me someone says things like "99% of vets think this" when they don't, and the famous line of "as a vet I think (a current rage topic) and is wasting all the money me and other vets put in" when the "posting" character is only a year old. OK don't know how old there main is (if that is not there main ans is an alt which it most Probably is)but can a one year old account really call themselves a vet?
but yes at the end of the day it is only epeen as you rightfully say, so this is a pointless topic, but an interesting discussion all the same, and might I add something different.

Some (potential) veteran signs:
When you train another skill level not because you desire or need the skill, but just to keep the points rolling since you paid for it through a subscription fee.
When you start training a skill and note that the initial time remaining is under two weeks, which mentally prompts you to say, "Oh, a short one."
You experienced gaming life before the skill queue.
You mined or ratted in any of Jita's asteroid belts.
Popping a rat either dropped a loot container or nothing (no wrecks, much less salvaging).
Due to Privateer's rampant war declarations of numerous corporations, you remember when CCP changed the costs involved to have numerous declarations.
Loosing a cruiser was devastating while seeing a battleship was awe inspiring.
More as my old memory kicks them out.

yes this is what I mean some "vets" were not around for any of these. I will admit that I may not have been present for 1 or 2
also this I feel is the best way of looking at things, and how I like to see things

when you realize that you technically don't have to pay CCP money to read 3rd party forums and chat on jabber.
Then you try to recall the last time you paid for EVE with RL money and go "meh, whatever..."

"Veterancy" is not a matter of time passed, but a matter of experience accumulated. You can be a veteran after half a year, or you can still be a newbie after 5 years. _

When after 8 years of playing, you've experienced everything there is to experience in the game, have more SP that you really need or know what to do with, the same goes for isk and no objectives left in the game....IE, bored ****less from basically having done something that CCP said can't be done....Beat the game.

Aye. When you no longer play EVE with the primary aim of making ISK, you are a true veteran.

You're a vet as soon as you mouth off in local about it. It's all a matter of attitude. No skills, knowledge or game experience required, just a really huge ego. --------

I would say on your 1500th ship death.
...
OK, seriously, though, a veteran of what, exactly? I'd say I'm a veteran solo SB pilot (I've gone from dying a lot doing it to being able to set up a win fairly consistently), but I certainly wouldn't say I'm a veteran interceptor pilot (my inties tend to get eaten) and for sure I'm not a veteran miner (I haven't even injected the astrogeology skill). ---

I pretty much agree with this. I'd imagine it wouldn't apply to people who've been playing since the very beginning, though.
Personally, I've been playing since late 2007. I don't know if that makes me a veteran, but I'm pretty sure I'm not a newbie anymore.
