Edited by: Aeunai Ire on 03/05/2011 10:10:12 At the moment it comes down to two titans. The Erebus and the Avatar. It's really rare to see the Leviathan or Ragnarok on the field. Anyone who uses them, fights them or has read up on them will probably know the reasons why.
As it stands, the Super Carrier is now the dominant force in Eve. It does not matter the size of gang you fly in, sooner or later someone will hot drop one or more of these things to take you out. The Fighter Bombers are so amazingly effective that they have essentially rendered regular carriers and dreads obsolete.
The titans doomsday is effective against a single target, no question about that. Ten minute recharge. So a good balance.
What if you recreated the area of effect doomsday (perhaps a new name for it) but reduced the damage of it. Making it effective in destroying small ships up to say cruiser hull and clearing out drones. Or a certain amount of base damage. It would grant another strategic use of titans against Super Carriers.
It would involve the Titan Pilots making a choice over the type of weapon they wished to fit. Choosing between either the Single Shot or Area of Effect weapon. The same cool down would apply.
You could also take it further and have certain titans fill certain roles. Certain bonuses to the weapon. For example making the rarer seen titans more effective at the AoE style attacks. Thus generating more diversity in the current cap fleets.
What would this mean for the older capitol ships? It would mean Dreads would be required on the field to supplement the lack of damage due to Fighter Bomber loss.

Its not a matter of reducing the damage of an area of effect weapon.
Its when there are multiple titans on the field it becomes an issue reduce the damage all you want but when there's 10 or so titans on the field which is pretty common nowadays all thse area of effect DD's combined will pretty much still wtf pwn most of your support regardless

I am going to have to say no no and another no.
Sub capitols on the 0.0 field are becomming less and less needed why give another excuse to not bring a battleship or something smaller these days?
Capitols needs to be ascended to thier own field of battles against each other while sub capitols would prove useful to be able to take them out like a swarm of frigates can down a battleship. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 3APR11

One could just give Titans the ability to mount a bomb launcher at the expense of the DD device (ie. conflicting).
Would need to create new rules for refitting though or they'd swap on the fly at adjacent carrier .. perhaps make refitting impossible with active aggression timer?

We do not need the AOE DD back as it was.
A more limited form like 15km radius or something of that nature might be okay, but not something that hits the whole grid.

Relatively simple solution would be adding in a Titan only module that was basically a Point Defense Missile Launcher (extremely high RoF) that uses special missiles that are basically a hybrid between FOF Cruise and Defenders. Relatively short range, about 40 km. The PD system only triggers against Fighters and Fighter Bombers in range. Launcher Slot not required. Missile/Launcher Ship bonuses do not apply. Self Targeted system. Limit one per ship.

Shrike Defense Missile I 10 km/s 2 second flight time. 0.5 m3

if those missiles hit for max damage on FB they would kill 1 in about 5-6 shots (20-30 sec)
that would be very costly for the SC pilots :)
but unlike defenders they should shoot any F/FB not from friendly/fleet members
else they become as useful as defenders (perhaps not as titans are usually attacked with a bunch of SC)

I like the concept, I'd like to see a new ship that has drone/fighter/fighter-bomber interdiction ability within a radius. Thus protecting other ships as well as itself.

Please no more Missile spaming .... you see what the Fighter Bombers did to the Server ;)
What about the Motherships ECM Burst module? It has a AoE effect and also some kind of reactivation delay.
Just make a Module only for Titan's that makes an EMP Pulse in this Area and deactivates the Drone for around lets say 3 - 10 min? so you have enough time to kill the Drones / Fighters / FB
