seriously... where the hell did the Eve Lexicon go??
anyways, what i would really like to know is: what exactly does "RMT" stand for?
but if the Lexicon, which used to be linked on the mainpage is still around, can some friendly podpilot point me (link me) in the right direction??

Real Money Trading. Selling ISK for real money or somehow supporting that cause. It's not a good thing.

As an addon question, why is it that so many people feel their game experience is negatively influenced by RMT? I honestly don't see the downside for other players.

whats with the 1/10 2/10 3/10 etc bs? are you a sheep? Anyway, I am quite new to eve and am seriously asking why someone would be butthurt when player X uses his creditcard to buy a nightmare and player Y has to grind missions forever to buy one.
This person who uses RMT to get his in-game stuff, would probably not be playing this game otherwise.(people using RMT are generally very lazy) Less items on the eve market means prices go up, which last I checked is a good thing.
Anyway, like I said before, I am a new player, so what do I know right? professional web development for the eve community |

There's sanctioned RMT i.e. PLEX/GTC but the RMT reffered to is the game killing one, the one all the cheats and botters are into.
The isk for this kind of RMT comes from bots, bots that go around shooting up the belt rats in 0.0 and making billions of isk per day for the guy who runs the botting program. This isk goes to RMT, so the botters can take a real life income from the game, but the isk is also used to fund wars, manipulate markets, corruption etc.
Because these botters have so much isk, they can buy all the best stuff and ships. They create far more isk than normal players which creates isk inflation. This causes prices, including that of plex, to rise.
It is isk generated from these same people that engage in RMT that is used to pay mercs like Pandemic Legion. They can afford to pay 600 billion isk out on contracts to the likes of PL to take space off other alliances on their behalf, so they can bot even more and make even more RL money and isk.
Your games is being changed by people who are basically cheating, people who are making real life money out of it. When you find in future that there is no way you can get into 0.0 holding position without paying billions to RMT alliances, when PLEX costs 500+ mil isk cause bots are hoovering them up, then come back and ask why RMT is bad.
This game is dying and money talks.

recently there was a big to do about RMT in eve and LOTS of info on why its bad for the game. I am not sure how exactly you can find it, but try searching for evenews24 and "iskbank.com exposed" for a great deal of related material.
In short, RMT is bad because it is fueled by bots. In addition, PLEX has a very valid reasoning for its existence, even though the end result is pretty much the same AND all the money is going to CCP. -------------------------------------------------

Right, that makes sense, I thought RMT was run by players who multibox and play 20 hours a day. Also I thought it was a small scale operation, but if what the other person said is true, and it funds an entire alliance of botters (proof?) then that is a bad thing. On the other hand though, botters in nullsec would not be protected and easily killed? or are their bots so intelligent that they log off as soon as you get close to them?
I'd be happy to have a character afk in a cloaky ship in a botting system if that prevents them from making any money (if I could actually fly a cloaky ship) professional web development for the eve community |

Space Lexicons. Every now and then, in quiet backwater systems, you'll see them. Riding on the backs of Space Whales. ------- Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience. |
