Please don't simplify and streamline the game any further - it might loose it's EVE charme... unless the complexity will come back elsewhere ;-)
Hear hear. EVE is for smart people; we don't want WOW-grade players in EVE. I can appreciate wanting to lower the standards to make more money by opening up the game to dumber/lazier people (i.e. MOAR people, MOAR money), HOWEVER doing so will destroy EVE by eliminating that which makes it different from (and superior to) WOW and its clones. CCP, don't throw away your market differentiation! Keep EVE complex and sophisticated!

Just because it's in low sec doesn't mean it's not PvE. In fact Eve really blurs the line between PvP & PvE. Doesn't EvE stand for "Everything vs Everything"? ;)
You've missed my point. those pvp'ers would not have the other side if it didnt exist like many other pvprs are suggesting.

AT LEAST is the key phrase here based on history. I remember when a patch went so badly that EVE was offline for 2 or 3 days. We got some SP for our trouble though...

I am just never quitting the hope they may once finish before the estimated deadline - I mean really finish, not like last time when they proclaimed to be early and then actually hit some sort of problem And I said: Pirates? What pirates would be interested in the few rocks I have mined? 3 Minutes later I was warping back to station - in my egg... |

Edited by: Ste''ven Sch''orik on 19/05/2011 15:02:58 When CCP is giving the estimated time they are going by THEIR time not yours. Its 1502 their time at the time of my posting this so you do the freakin math if you can. Idiots. The agent changes will just attract more griever scum to more systems. Can't stand those corps that straddle the line dictating what is acceptable levels of griefing and what breaks the EULA (ie. the constant targeted harassment of a specific group over an extended period.) Its part of the game but CCP has placed a line that is not to be crossed and this change will just open more opportunities for them and take away from the missioners. I wonder how many closing accounts it will take for CCP to address what constitutes "going too far". I like the idea behind the change but if it opens more doors for scum and closes more doors for those of us just trying to have fun in peace then its not worth it. ________________________________________________

Until CCP starts doling out free ships and mods, PvP players cannot live without PvE players.
Your wrong....
... Missions and PvE should be about training so you know how to react when a fleet warps in on you.
I think missions and PvE perform a much larger role than just training for various forms of PvP (indy, mining, and combat). They are a great way to tell the story of EVE. Why do you get rewarded by the Tash-Murkon Family for having bureaucratic and financial connection skills? What turn of events turned a lazy sequence of courier missions into a high stakes, put-your-ship-on-the-line encounter?
The reason Lucas Arts can continue to expand the Star Wars gaming universe in the midst of recent, mainstream... inconsistencies is because of a rich background story.
I can only hope that CCP is striving to meet some of those meta goals. For example, they spoke alot at FanFest about creating a more robust set of game development tools. I can see how this patch to Incursion will allow them to get better statistics on how people move around the universe in search of their preferred type of gameplay.
They could be asking asking questions such as: Will people go to low sec for high payout courier missions? What will actually happen to trade hubs if we normalize agent quality? Normalizing PvE (quality and payout) and controlling some of the variables (divisions with only one mission type) will help answer those meta, game design questions.
With better game design tools, CCP could be able to truly harmonize the EVE story in all parts of the universe. I can see how PvE missions can start to reflect the outcomes of alliance politics, large fleet battles, and the like. I can also see how player run corps can set up their own mission agents in hisec space (something similar to contracts). At least I hope that's the direction CCP is heading. I can only hope.

Be warned that we'll be monitoring this change closely, along with the player activity it produces, and we will very likely move or retire a number of redundant agents

Where exactly do you think a good deal of items on the market and some of the minerals used to make the rest come from? Thin air?
Wrong.
Mission loot is the source of most T1 mods on the market, and reprocessed mods and drone alloys account for some of minerals used to make the rest. Not to mention meta level gear optionally used in invention, and various loot used to buy faction gear and ships from LP stores that is then resold to you PvPers. Plus many missioners mine mission asteroids as they're safer to jetcan than belt 'roids.
Frankly if you think missioning is unimportant, you're either stupid or plain ignorant. -- Frog blast the vent core! |

Keep in mind that alongside bounties, missions are one of the methods to actually get funds in the game originally. Where do you think all that isk going around is coming from? "Trading! LOLZ!" Where do people get the isk to buy the stuff on the market?

Most people I know who mission don't sell their stuff on market. They reprocess it and sell minerals. Minerals that can be mined and refined. It would just mean people would have to do a LOT of mining.
